This year I invite you to take out your phone or camera once a day to snap a photo of your Cairn or anything that interests you. Don't pressure yourself into thinking every shot — or *any* shot — needs to be a glamor shot; candid snaps are a terrific way to capture a moment in time. Puppies grow too quickly and old ones are gone too soon. Engage with your Cairn world and share a few photos with your Cairn friends. Here's lookin' at you, Cairn Enter your daily or weekly favorite in the monthly contests and enter your best Cairn photo in the Cairn of the Year contest. Share them in a post, in your gallery album, drop 'em right here, or just enjoy them at home…

I found this in an old hard drive from 2017. This was after our grandma passed away and we were staying at a hotel because the bank sold the house. The guy wanted to move in quickly. anyways, thought i'd upload it because it showed fonzie's and odie's relationship ;)

Hi my dear friends With great sadness my best friend litte Alfie has passed. He was only 2 and he indeed was the most amazing and funny little character you can imagine. We are so heartbroken and I can still barely talk about it two months later. My dilemma is that my other Cairn seems ok but rather sleeps a bit more and of course has no one to chase her around. I know I can never replace my little guy however I wonder if I should contemplate another Cairn one day Sooner, or later? Puppy or young adult ?which I know are hard to find. Any comments or suggestions would be so much appreciated Thank you

his birthday is July 28th and he's going to be 16 years old! he takes hydrocodone because he has chronic bronchitis and a cough after waking up every now and then. and that stupid librela shot last year made him lose both functionality in his back 2 legs. however, we didn't opt-in for the 2nd injection cause side effects were dangerous. but now, his leg functionality is still not 100% but it's better than the worse cases i've seen with librela where their dogs died! so i'd say fonzie is extremely lucky to survive that shot. anyways, he doesn't play with his bone anymore but still loves his turkey and treats. i'm really not sure how long he has left, but he seems happy st…

I have two Cairn Terriers. They are half brothers and we got them at a pet shop in 1991. They are both 17 now. One turned 17 in May and the other in June. Does anyone else have Cairns that old or older? How much older?

Hi Everybody, it's been a while since I've posted. We have been crating Jasper (now 5 months old) at night. On weekends I get up with him to do his business (usually around 7:00) then take him back to the bed for a sleep-in. He sleeps sooo well in the bed that we've been letting him sleep in the bed some nights. He usually fusses in the crate for a few minutes but taking him to bed he finds a comfy spot goes to sleep without a sound. I like having him in the bed but my family all tell me I'm spoiling him. Where do yours sleep?

Hi All, Wondering about pecking order in the wild world. We have a neighborhood fox that I saw take out a rather large rabbit and haul it away earlier this evening. I was wondering if anyone knows if a fox would attack my cairn if I have him tethered outside? He doesn't spend much time alone outside, but occasionally we let him out on the line at night to take care of business. The fox was pretty tall (significantly taller than a cairn) but slight, but I'd put him anywhere upward of 12 lbs and possibly as large as 20 lbs.

From the Dog Aging Project comes possibly the worst news for hungry Cairns since the invention of the measuring cup: Preliminary results / The Dog Aging Project Growing up I recall our dogs being fed only at dinnertime but our Cairns have been twice daily and are constantly angling to add a lunch menu. I am steeling myself for the looks we'll get if we transition to once-daily .

Alberta Canada 🇨🇦, typical winter -30C. Potty breaks require jackets and boots. But our dogs are as tough and resilient as us.

Say hello to Hoku (aka Mystic Isles Autumn Ridge at Joywood). We've just welcomed this beautiful girl into our home. Hoku's breaking up the "boys club" joining Elroy and Dundee — by arriving in season she's already driven Elroy into schoolboy delirium. At 14 Dundee's interests in life have moved on and he seems generally unbothered by either her season or her presence. He's probably just happy that there's someone else for Elroy to pester for play. We will not be breeding Hoku (she'll be spayed a few months after her season ends) and Elroy is neutered, but that's not stopping him from attempting to go all Romeo and Juliet In another week or so this shall…

This is my little dog Daphne, who I rescued from a local animal control office. She was found on the side of a freeway, where she'd likely been living for a few weeks. The pound told me she's a Cairn, likely because of her brindle, but she has floppy ears, a pretty long body, and the cutest little snubby nose with an underbite. What do you think she's mixed with?

2 weeks ago I was on my way out when I spotted a neighbours dog running around onto the busy road all over but the owner and others could not catch her so I stepped in to help and scooped her up, she was deshevaled smelly and scared. I took her over to my neighbour but he said with his health problems he couldn't look after her. She had never been out for walks, never groomed or house trained. So I took her in bathed her groomed her and started taking her out for walks which gets her so exited. Next week she is at vets to be chipped and then spayed. She has settled in very well and loves to sneak under the bedding to snuggle in behind my knees. I love her so much she's a …

I have a 9 year old and a 16 month old female Cairns. Both are rescues. I got my oldest, Riley 4 years ago and my youngest, Molly, in July 2023. About 3 weeks ago, Molly attacked Riley. Riley had to have 2 stitches. They have been tolerating and even playing a bit then today Molly attacked again. I noticed Riley had been growling at her this morning and didn't want to let her out of her crate so I think Riley starts things and pushes Molly. We have an appointment with a Trainer and Behavioralist later this month...but it is so expensive. Has anyone had success with getting their girls to be friends or at least stop fighting after one has hurt the other? I'm open to sugges…

These were just a year or so before fonzie went from 5 yr old puppy to a "senior cairn". Good news is the librela side effects are wearing off and he's getting control in his back legs now! I don't think he'll ever be as hip as he was when he was younger, but having full function of his legs are much better than none! Here's some of my fav videos ❤️

I have come to the conclusion that my dog Sam is smarter than me! How did he learn that if he holds out long enough he will get his favourite treat, how did he learn that whining incessantly will drive me crazy and of course I will take him for a walk regardless of the weather , How did he learn to look at me with those beautiful liquid brown eyes and basically get what he wants. How could he pretend to ignore my come here command when he remembers all the hand signals when he went to puppy class. How does he know to come and comfort me when I am very upset. How does he know that it is the exact time to get up, to get fed a go for a walk? conclusion…..he is sm…

Our 15 week old just loves to climb up on things and then sit and observe the world from his high spot. We have made a tower of boxes that he can climb up and lay down on a blanket, he's all in for that. Outside he likes to sit on top of piles of dirt and rock (new house/yard landscaping in progress). Is this typical of the breed? I seem to recall some folks saying the dog liked to sit on the back of the couch up high. I also wonder about building him some kind of dog playground/jungle Jim to climb on and sit. Anyone done this? Any thoughts/ideas? Thanks

Hi there, good afternoon. New member, thank you for having me. I have a 9 year old male Cairn called Teddy (he just turned 9 two months ago). He is a happy and healthy boy, but I took him to the vet last week for annual bloodwork and the results came back with mildly elevated ALP and ALT enzyme levels. The vet said that he would like to check the enzyme levels again in 6-8 weeks and then maybe do a liver ultrasound if they hadn’t returned to normal. Needless to say, I am a little shocked and very worried. We have had no health problems at all with Teddy so this has come out of the blue. Has anyone had a similar experience? I’m really looking for some advice and maybe…

In a post about my latest brouhaha; whits mentioned how Addie greets with howls and ear chews... Oban is my 4th cairn but my first with a wide range of vocalizations. I particularly love his enthusiastic woo-hooing when I come home from being somewhere. I hear "woo-hoo, mom's home!" I have decided I need to get some videos of his vocal virtuosity. And I thought it would be fun - if you already have some - if you all would post them for us. Anyone have anything? What does your dog say?

Sorry if this has been posted before. I just finished watching "Reap the Wild Wind," (1942 oldie) Anyway, Rommy was the cairn in this one. After some research I found out that Rommy was Toto's (Terry's) son. And this list of movies was with the article for those of you who are interested in other cairn movie stars. *Ready For Love - 1934-NA 2. *Bright Eyes--1934-A 3. *Dark Angel-1935-A 4. *Fury- 1936-A, 5. *? Double Or Nothing-1937-A 6. *#The Buccaneer-1938-NA 7. *Barefoot Boy-1938-A 8. *Stablemates-1938-NA 9. *The Women-1939-A 10. *Bad Little Angel-1939-NA 11. *Wizard Of OZ- 1939-A, 12. *The Wizard Of Oz 70th Anniversary Edition-A 13. *Son Of The Navy-194…

@bradl I don't have access to my email on this account anymore, so thank goodness I remembered my password haha. So glad to see some of you guys still here. I definitely remember some usernames and cairns! I need to keep looking! Anyways, just wanted to come here and post an update about Fonzie and where I've been. After my grandma passed in 2017, I stopped coming here and a lot of websites to be honest. However, I want to tell you guys something that happened when my grandma was in the ICU. It's pretty personal, but want to share it here to show you all how Fonzie had such an immense impact on our lives. My grandma was in the ICU that…

It's been a long time since I have visited you all. Lots of new members. I am still on the farm. One leg out the door as we are trying to retire. Do farmers ever retire? But I am enjoying a new home about 30 minutes away. Some time there, some time here. I never adopted another cairn after Dempsy and Elsie. Mostly yorkies have been in my life. Just last month I did bring one home from a rescue in the cities. Her name was Minnie Mouse when I applied for her. Someone else got her. .... but, to my surprise, they returned her .... so what the heck ... I traveled to the cities to see my daughter and pick up Minnie. They say she is part Yorkie/Chihuahua. She's one…
