I will donate as well. IM me with your info. We ARE going to find little Fergus!

We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made.

I've been reading these notes every day while holding my breath, hoping for the message that would tell me little Fergus is home and safe. These must be the hardest days to get through. I'm sure you're not even sleeping well during the nights.

I would also, of course, contribute to a fund to help find Fergus. (How can we do this, Brad? Have never tried to contact a member directly.) We feel as powerless as you must feel, worrying but not able to do anything other than offer support.

I just have to trust that, with these good vibes and prayers all around aimed at Fergus' return, Fergus will be back at home with you soon. I will add mine to the pool in hopes that he will be found.

No News -

Thanks to all those who are volunteering to contribute to the reward. I don't think that will be needed, but I will keep my options open. We have several local offers to contribute too. But I think we have it pretty well covered. If the "rescuer" wants substantially more than we are offering ($100 at this point, but we are not mentioning the amount in any posters or listings - only that there is a reward), I think it becomes more a kidnapping/ransom situation and there are other avenues to pursue there.

We continue to post flyers. A friend is calling every Vet in the yellow pages today. We continue to hope... Thank you all.... John

What a great group of people in this forum. It is nice to know that in a crisis, everyone bands together for support. Too bad we aren't in the same area so we could look for Fergus. The offers to help John with a reward are so heart warming - wish I had thought of that. Anyway, I'd contribute if that would help.

Just a quick note for those who are helping with on-line searches (and my thanks to all of you):

I have been searching not only under Cairn Terrier, but terrier (generic) and when allowed, with no specific breed or color. Most people don't understand 'brindle', so I look for brown and for tan. Fergus has an almost unique coloring - it looks like he has all the standard cairn colors mixed together - at a distance he looks brownish, but closer you can see he has brown, black, golden, wheaten, and red in his coat. He is still young enough that his face hasn't grown out fully into the characteristic cairn look, so even terrier people might figure him for some other type of terrier. The picture/poster at the top of this thread was taken July 4th, so it is very much what he currently looks like. He is going to be a little smaller than some Cairns. My guess is that as an adult, he will probably top out at around 15 pounds. John

Please let us know if you think increasing the reward money will help. We'll gladly contribute! I feel like I've lost one of my own pups! We're praying good things for you, your family, and Fergus!

That's great your friend is calling all of the vets in the yellow pages. Don't forget the stores! If someone found Fergus and is thinking of keeping them, they'd have to buy food for him. I'd post his poster not only at pet stores, but anywhere that sells dog food like grocery stores and places like Wal-Mart and Target. Heck, I'd try to get on the local news with my story and pour my heart out how much my puppy was missed. :crybaby: I'm just praying he's safe w/ someone and they'll do the right thing and turn him in once they realize he's someone's beloved pet. Thanks for keeping us posted. I can't think of anything else lately but little Fergus.

I think the local news is a great idea! That would give you exposure w/ people that wouldn't normally be involved w/ dogs or be paying attention to flyers etc.

oh dear..I am so sorry. I am just reading this know and my heart breaks for you. I am not a regular poster but a regular reader of the forum, so I know all about all of your lovable puppers...(I am a cairn terrier owner wannabee)

Call every vet even in surrounding towns, call the local police, put signs in any store window you can, try and get you lost dog story in the local paper...anything you can think of.

Prayers for Fergus' return soon.

Oh my, just back from Disney world. My heart aches for you and your family. I just can't imagine your heartache losing Fergus. I, as well as the others will keep Fergus in my prayers that he will return home safe. I also as well will add to a fund.

I think contact your local news is a great idea. Don't forget about newspapers...especially if there is a small, local paper in your area. Often these little papers (I work for one in PA) are eager to take on these types of soft news stories and you'd be surprised how many people read them.

I am still praying and sending good thoughts to you & Fergus!

Although I haven't been able to post here for the past few days, I have been checking in several times a day and it just breaks my heart that Fergus is still out there. I will keep all my fingers and toes crossed until he is found and you, and your family, are in my thoughts and prayers.

I've been so busy with summer classes that I just now got to read about poor Fergus. I was going to offer you advice, but its seems that you are doing everything I would have thought to tell you. Yoda got out once too, I left the gate open after mowing the grass, I found him 2 blocks over sitting on someones porch getting treats and a belly rub. I think we should plan something special for when Fergus comes home, because I know he will. Maybe we could all post "Welcome Home Fergus" cards and designs or something. Maybe if we think good thoughts about the "forum party" kind of like a cyber block party, then it will come true.

I haven't logged on in a couple of days, so I was hoping for better news! I can't imagine that someone would steal him! Certainly no "dog person" would do that because they would know what that little guy means to you! My heart breaks for you and Jack and I continue to think of you often and hope and pray for Fergus!

Of course he may not really be 'stolen'. I called on a report of a "brown male" dog found. Turns out to be a beagle, but the person who has him took a week to get Internet notices up and apparently didn't think of taking him to a vet to check for a microchip. She has 3 dogs of her own (and says she doesn't want or need another). I'm sure many well meaning folks who rescue a dog found wandering around loose, don't want to take it to the "pound" for fear it will be put down. And they may not be internet smart or have limited time to locate owners.

So Fergus may be in "protective custody" and notices just haven't been posted yet. There is always hope..... John

John have you talked anyone at the post office? I just happened to run into a couple of mail carriers while I was running errands this morning & thought about about Fergus. Maybe a mail carrier has or will spot him while making deliveries...just a thought.

I know this sounds rather extreme but it's a thought....

Do you or any of your relatives or friends have connections with any state police officers? Here in CT every troop uses trained scent dogs for everything from lost children to escaped criminals. Athough it's been several days since Fergus has been missing, one of their dogs may be able to pick up Fergus's scent and give clues as to his last location.

If they aren't in the middle of a major case and their dogs are just "hanging around", it's worth a phone call. They may have restrictions as to how they can use their police dogs but they've been known to go over and beyond the call of duty.

All they can say is "no".
