I am so sorry to hear about this! I can only imagine how scared you are right now. Fergus probably is having a Cairn adventure and doesn't even realize that his parents are worried sick at home! Hopefully someone will spot him and call his adventure short so that he can be returned to you. Please keep us updated and know that we are hoping for his safe arrival home! Love from Savannah and her Mom...

I was so hoping that when I logged on this morning Fergus would be safe and sound back home. Hang in there guys. I'm sure he will be found. ::crossing fingers and toes for you::

This is so sad and I'm sorry he hasn't turned up yet. I thought about him all night last night, and just hope someone has found him and he is safe somewhere until they can find his home for him.

I'm mad as heck at St. Anthony - he never lets me down when it comes to the lost!

It took me a long time to fall asleep last night - I kept thinking about you and Fergus. Please know that there are so many prayers going for you that Fergus will be home soon.

I have been where you are! When Duffy was 7 months old he got out and was gone for over 6 hours. Fortunately we found him hiding in some bushes a few houses down from where we were living at the time. I hope and pray that little Fergus is safe and either finds his way back to you or you find him! I will send positive thoughts.

No new news on Fergus - left the backyard gate open last night and the light on - placing a newspaper 'lost' ad this morning and posting more flyers - my wife & the neighbors are going to paper the area with more 'lost' flyers & posters. My real fear is that someone has picked him up and decided keep him. There was a neighborhood yard sale going on the afternoon he disappeared and I worry that someone from outside the area discovered him.

more waiting..... :(

Well, this wasn't the news I wanted to read. I had a flat tire this morning. Instead of getting impatient waiting for AAA, I prayed for Fergus. I'm starting to think that someone may have found him and took him home. Maybe they do want to keep him but I'm praying they're honest and know they have to do the right thing and report him in the "found" section of the newspaper. I so wish I lived closer to you so that I could expand out with flyers in other subdivisions. Please stay positive!

According to my vet, if someone brings in a new dog for vet care, the vet is supposed to ask for the dogs previous vet so that they can obtain their previous records. If the owner cannot provide that information, the vets office is supposed to check for a chip before they treat the dog. The humane society's are supposed to do the same, so hopefully, even if some dishonest person has decided to claim Fergus for their own, they will get caught. Hopefully that isn't the case, some nice person has found him and is taking good care of him but they haven't seen your posters yet or called the right organization. I would notify all the vet clinics and humane societies in your area so that they can be on the look out. My vet even has a place where you can post lost animals in his office. You may want to check into that too! We are praying for you both. Don't loose hope and continue to be strong!

I just got back from walking around in the blocks around Fergus's neighborhood for a little bit. There were quite a number of people out and about, walking their dogs and the like. The several I talked to had seen the signs already and said they were keeping a look out. The meter reader I met said he'd do the same. There are many very inviting gardens and much interesting landscaping to explore in Fergus' neighborhood. I thought I heard the tell-tale sound of a puppy barking over the sound of a lawnmower, but it was only a painter's scraper squeaking on wood siding :( I sure hope Fergus headed into the inviting neighborhood and away from the business district!

I was wondering on my way back to work about similar things as savannahsmom35 mentioned. Maybe also stop in to any pet supply stores in the area to be on alert for anyone with a new Cairn - pet stores always seem to ask 'what kind of dog do you have." I've got to believe a pup as cute as Fergus would be INSTANTLY brought inside by whomever found him. Let's hope it's just a matter of the time for that person to work out how to get him home. That would be particularly true if he made it to the business district - if someone there picked him up they might have a hard time figuring out which block he came from. Fingers crossed.

I'm just in from a few days away and have just found this post. I am so sorry for you! If we were closer I'd be happy to help you in your search! This is the nightmare all petowners have...that someone will see our furbaby and take it for themselves. If that has happened, maybe someone will see your flyers/advertisement and turn in the thief, or at least make him/her guilty enough to return him to you. I'll be praying for you and your wife and a quick reunion with Fergus.

We lost a puppy once ,she got out some how on a Sunday and apparently followed an old lady from up the street all the way to church, the lady took her home and placed an add in the local paper, as did we, 2 days later when the paper came out our add was directly below hers. The lady actually only lived up the street we had a flyer right near her house, seems she didn't get out much!

Hopefully Fergus is having a big adventure some where and will be home soon, good luck.

I keep checking this post hoping to see an update on Fergus's whereabouts....my heart still goes out to you! I know it is a horrible world we live in to think that some people wouldn't turn Fergus over to you out of the kindness of their hearts, but unfortunately, some people are motivated by money....have you offered a reward for his return? It might make a would be thief bring him home! I hate to think of it as "rewarding a thief", even though it might be, but I think the most important thing is getting Fergus home! I'll be thinking of you!

:( Poor Fergus, i feel so bad for you.....I'm also thinking someone has found and taken him in, and he's having an adventure. I'm sure someone will answer the ads and also a vet or do-gooder will come forward. Keep the faith.

4 o'clock and no new news - good idea BradL and thanks for the look around. Yes, there are LOTS of places for a pup to explore and if he heads in the wrong direction, lots of traffic. Animal control has no reports of doggy deaths and Vicki is keeping a watch for us there which saves a trip to Troutdale every couple of days to check.

I will get my wife to hand out flyers to the local vets and pet stores too. I have lots of 8.5x11" posters and a bunch of 1/4 sheet size to hand out door to door and at stores (assuming they won't post a full size poster). We have put up posters at all the local dog parks and near anywhere that lots of people (especially kids) hang out.

We are offering a reward on the poster (amount unspecified per some advise taken) and we left a few details (like what he was 'wearing') off as well so we have a way of confirming identity if someone calls. (Screening the 'scammers').

Fergus is very well socialized and pretty fearless (no fireworks or loud noise trauma) so it is unlikely that he is just hiding somewhere. He is not neutered yet (that was on the horizon - maybe he sensed that and decided to skip out), so he may have been attracted to a female in heat somewhere.

Thanks for your prayers.... John

John,

I have been praying for you and your dog since I read this thread.

Please know we all care. If I was closer I would help pass out flyers.

Have you posted on Craigslist.org in the pet section. That might be a

way to spread the word.

take care

I feel so helpless and a little guilty right now that my three are all home w/ me. They're all napping and that gave me time to do some looking on the internet and I found these shelters for you. I'm sure you know what's around you, but just in case you're missing one, here's some listings of 10 shelters. Just scroll down past the advertising.

Edited to add: Not sure if you already know about this, but thought it might be worth posting Fergus on.
