:( Bad news about Fergus

We had a call earler this evening from a family living about 3 blocks away. They returned from vacation yesterday and found Fergus dead under their hedge. They identified him from his collar id and after calling us, brought him to us (wrapped up in a towel). He is now buried in the back yard with the other family pets. Based on the condition of his body and the fact that no one saw him loose, I would guess that he was hit by a car not long after he escaped, staying conscious only long enough to crawl away and hide.

The vigil is over. As stunned and sad as we are over his death, at least we know what happened and can start to resume our lives. Thank you all for your prayers and hopes.

John

I am so so sorry. I don't know you but I'm sitting here crying and hurting for your family. Words just can't express my feelings, but at least you now know what happened. All my thoughts and prayers are with your family. Again I am so sorry.

Warm summer sun,

Shine kindly here,

Warm southern wind,

Blow softly here.

Green sod above,

Lie light, lie light.

Good night, dear heart,

Good night, good night.

--Mark Twain

My heart aches for you both, and for Fergus.

I honestly don't have any words to express how deeply I'm hurting right now inside for your loss. This is so sad and my heart truly aches. I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers that you may have strength during this time of mourning.

They say memories are golden.

Well, maybe that is true.

I never wanted memories

I only wanted you.

A million times I needed you,

A million times I cried.

If love alone could have saved you,

You never would have died.

In life I loved you dearly,

In death I love you still.

In my heart you hold a place

No one could ever fill.

If tears could build a stairway,

And heartache make a lane.

I'd walk the path to heaven,

And bring you home again.

Our family chain is broken,

And nothing seems the same.

But as God calls us one by one,

The chain will link again.

It gives me comfort to picture Fergus (along w/ my passed pets) waiting at Rainbow Bridge, right outside Heaven's gates until we're once again together.

Rainbow Bridge Poem

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge .

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Dear John and Ruth,

I am so sorry to hear the sad news about Fergus. My heartfelt sympathy to both of you. As you said, at least you know and can go forward. The waiting and uncertainty is the worst. This poem by Isla Paschal Richardson was sent to me in a card when we lost our first Cairn. It has brought me great comfort. Hope it helps you as well.

Cynthia

Greive not, nor speak of me with tears,

but laugh and talk of me

as if I were beside you...

I loved you so, 'twas heaven here with you.

There are no words right now to offer you that could ease your pain. I also shed tears for you and your family and Fergus. I cannot believe how upsetting this is to feel such sorrow for a dog I've never seen, people I will probably never know. You touched our hearts and became a part of our lives. We prayed together but it was too late.

Fergus is at peace, he is in heaven and you all shall meet again. Please accept my deepest sympathy.

I'm sitting at work crying reading this - I am so deeply sorry for your loss. Words are just so inadequate.

Please know that my family is keeping you and your family in our prayers.

Just know that Fergus is happy and healthy and playing waiting for you to join him.

John and Ruth,

I am so sorry to hear about Fergus. I'm glad that you have closure now and we can mourn him together as a family.

Please know that you and Fergus are in our hearts and prayers every day. You will not be alone in this.

Fergus is home now, playing with our Maya and I'm sure they are both up there causing some kind of terrier trouble.

Warmest thoughts, prayers and hugs,

Ann, Bill and Logan
