All our hopes are going out to you and for Barney's recovery. Our Max could not tolerate a certain anesthetic at all, it gave him seizures but he came out ok. I had to notify his doctor whenever we moved not to use it on him and they found an alternative that he did tolerate. Hope your sweet doggie can come home to his loving family soon.

Our prayers are with you and Barney. The picture on your avitar looks just like our Yods. He is just a little over 6 months but I want to wait till he gets a little older before we get him neutered. Will be watching for the GOOD NEWS everyone is praying for.

Well, here's the latest on my baby boy. At 7:30 this evening, it had been 9 hours since his surgery and he is still extremely groggy and sleepy. The good news is that all his vitals are good. His pupils are back to normal and he has sat up a couple of times, but then goes back to this extreme sleepiness. His heart rate is about 90 bpm, and it should be about 140 bpm. They have transfered him to the emergency clinic in a large city near our home, where he can be monitored through the night. The vet took him there herself, AND has offered to pay the bill for his stay. She is so worried about him that she doesn't want him left alone through the night.

My husband went over to see him tonight and brought his little stuffed hedgehog, his favorite rope toy and his blanket. Oh boy, here come the tears again. Better stop there on that subject. He said he was glad I didn't go because it would have been very hard for me to see him in his current state.

Anyway, the vet said he has a 50/50 chance of making it through without complications, but she does feel he will pull through. Dear Lord, I hope she is right. She doesn't think he has any complications though because he is responsive, moving his limbs, having bowl movements and urinating, moving his tongue around, etc. etc. It's just that he can't seem to wake up completely. They saw him when I brought him in and, well, we all know how 4 month old Cairn puppies act at the vet!!! She could barely hold on to him because he wanted to get a piece of their clinic cat!

So everyone, please pray hard for a miracle!! That he will be OK in the morning. I figure since we are all praying, he is in God's hands, and that's the best place for him to be. I just cannot bear to lose him.... Or worse, have to decide whether or not to put him to sleep. No, I am not going to go there.....

Thank you all for your concern and prayers for Barney. It has touched me deeply that so many of you posted and shared your concern. Especially those of you who don't post quite as often as some of the others. I feel like I have gained a whole new circle of wonderful friends through this forum and I haven't even met you all! Isn't it wonderful how these little creatures not only bring joy to our lives, but open up whole new avenues for friendship and encouragment through places like this forum.

Hugs to you all! I will update again after I talk to the vet in the morning. I hope I can sleep tonight.

All creatures great and small, the Lord God, He made them all!

As other's here have said, these little creatures are indeed one tough breed.

From your description, sounds like Barney is showing his true Cairn spirit and hopefully coming around!

Will be anxiously awaiting your post tomorrow.....

Thoughts and prayers are with you,

Hoping for the best for your family - including Barney. When Max had his surgery, one of the testicles had not descended. They had to make 2 additional incisions to explore and find it. Thank goodness they did, otherwise he would have had serious health problems down the road. He looked terrible after the surgery, very doped up.

Love and light to you and your dog.

I'm glad to hear he was more responsive last night, I'm also very happy they transfered him so he could have overnight supervision and care. I will continue to pray for a full recovery for Barney and peace for all of you. ((HUGS))

I too could not wait to sign on this a.m. and check on Barney. It sounds like he is coming around, whew, what a scare!! He has made quite a name for himself now hasn't he?!? We'll keep him in our thoughts all day that he will get to come home very soon and have no ill effects of the surgery. Have you gotten any indication from the vet what could have gone wrong? Keep us all updated throughout the day on Barney's progress. I will be on pins and needles until he is home! Angus sends his vibes too!
