Now Abbey could use some positive thoughts/prayers

Dh took Abbey to the Animal Hosp. first thing this morning after a very rough night. Abbey's been vomiting since late yesterday afternoon. She's my one Cairn that seems to eat everything. Once she threw up one of our cat's stuffed mouse, which was about 4" long! We have to watch her closely w/ her toys. Well, this is something more than a toy. She didn't keep her dinner down, and now looking back, she played w/ a baby carrot instead of eating it and turned up her nose to a Bil-Jac treat. She finally threw up a hard piece of plastic, about the size of a nickel. We thought that was it, but her vomiting continued, so dh gave her some Metoclopramide to hopefully help her. Even that didn't work and she continued to vomit bile throughout the night. This morning dh took her in to make sure she doesn't have an obstruction. He called me a few minutes ago to tell me he also found blood in her stool and will be x-raying her next. She's very weak and he hooked her up to an IV. I will keep you guys updated.

Your thought and prayers are always appreciated.

here's a few happy thoughts for sweet Abby and a hug for you.

Keep us updated. I just got over a scare with Tabby a few weeks ago.

It is so upsetting when they are sick :(

Well, I've been waiting on pins and needles for dh to call. He just called to say that the film strip is definitely showing a foreign body in her stomach. He also had 2 other vets look at the strip and they agree to take x-rays for more views of the object, and then it looks like dh is going to have to do exploritory surgergy on her. Poor dd, this is her dog and I know this is upsetting her big time.

I will continue to update hopefully good news as I hear it. I'm just beside myself.

Dh just called again as I'm typing. He did a couple more x-rays and was telling me that one looked normal, thinking maybe there was a malfunction is the first x-ray. Just as he was telling me that, the other vet brought him another film strip shot at a latteral angle showing bleeding in the intestines. There is definitely something wrong. Dh hung up fast to work on Abbey. Please pray for Abbey.

I just can't believe how much each of my Cairns mean to me. I can't imagine my life w/o any of them. Abbey is the sweatest little girl. She always jumps at my legs to be picked up for a hug. She had the sadest look this morning. Those brown eyes gazing up at me and the ears flat back was heartbreaking.

Thanks for being here.

Poor Abbey! I can only imagine what you are going through. Waiting is the hardest. I will be thinking of you, Abbey and your family. Please continue to keep us posted. We will all be worried sick until we get word that everything is ok!

We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made.

Sorry to her about poor little Abbey. Our babies are like children to all of us and I know how terrified you must be - my heart is with you. I'm sure she'll be okay. Cairns are strong little things and I have hope that she'll make it through this all just fine.

Ok, I got a little confused w/ my dh's last phone call. I overheard bleeding and intestines before dh said he had to go and thought the intestines were bleeding. There was some blood from a lesion in the stomach, but the intestines are fine. Her chemistry is normal and her white blood cell count is normal. There was filing defect, (possible foreign body) in only one film strip after barium was added. Being two other plain film strips were normal, that's not enough to jump to doing surgery just yet. Sometimes it takes several film strips to detect the foreign body. Dh is hoping this is just gastrointerocolitus, which is treatable. He has her on IV fluids, something for vomiting, an antibotic and an intestinal protectant to coat the stomach. He only does emergency/relief work at the hosp. once a wk, and has another vet. supervisor position. He is leaving Abbey there while he goes to work and will stop in to check her this afternoon. She's in good hands, the other two vets there are great and will monitor her. If there is anymore vomiting, more x-rays will have to be taken. I will update you later today.

Thanks for reading and staying positive. Kiara seems to know Abbey should be home. She went over and got in her bed. Hannah ran and got in Kiara's. I must say, it is too quiet around here. Abbey is my yapper, and I actually miss the noise. ;)

Sending good thoughts and prayers out for Abbey. I know you must miss her terribly. Hopefully she'll be back home very soon yapping up a storm and jumping on your legs. It's funny how those seemingly annoying things are so endearing at times. I hope she gets to come home soon!!

I'm also late on this thread....

Poor little Abbey and poor you :( She is for sure in excellent hands and I bet she'll be home soon.

It's so scary how quick something can happen with these guys. I'm amazed that Elliott never had an obstruction with all the things he swallows. Sometimes I think they are worse than kids!

Hang in there and thanks for all the updates. You know how we all worry here. Give Hannah and Kiara a hug from me and reassure them sis will be home soon.

Sandy
