This is so exciting!

I guess that makes it final......Elliott and Madison have the same daddy...Nancy's Buster

And Cody and Lexi's pedigree (Pookiegirl) have CH Barretts Firestarter in their line...same as Elliott (great grandparents)

Do you know what that means? A Cairn Terrier Forum reunion just has to be in the making.....Brad's house???

Wow really doesn't mean that much to me, except that he hopefully has good strong genes?(all those champions  )and a few of them seem to be shared by both parents does that matter? All the dogs have brindle after their names except Rebels dad who is down as wheaten (but he is now black brindle) and Rebel himself who is marked as black brindle.

Petey = Burke's Peter The Great. Sire: Southern Bright-Eyed Bandit. Dam: Princess Ruby II.

Belle = Colonel Potter's Astrid-Belle. Nah, not really...I just made that up. She's a rescue!

Edited to add, TooManyPaws, I just noticed Petey's great-great-grandfather was Kiara's sire (Snookie's Albert Einstein). He came from NC, too. Family reunion in PCB here we come!

I want to play but am certain we won't connect. Max's breeder past away years ago and Cassie isn't a blue blood. Just in case however here it is:

Max

Sire Kiku's Wuppity pup RA976508

Dam Juneau's Misty Dawn RB031756

Cassie

Sire HHA(Hell's Half Acre) Rance Redford RN04260001

Dam HHA(Hell's Half Acre) Maxine RN03578406

I checked the website Brad posted and did not find any information I didn't already have. Wish I'd asked for the larger AKC pedigree when I sent in Cassie's registration. I forgot about that option, it's been so long since we had a pup.

Here's a cool resource in fact for looking up kennel names (and pedigrees): http://www.cairn.dk/ped/ - it's a frames-based site, so you have to click on "Kennel/Breeder Index" after you go there.

An interesting thread. After going to Brad's recommended site, The Cairn Pedigree Search, I learned that the person that manages this website is the person that I got my Charlie from.

My Charlie's official info is as follows:

Name: Greatscot's Prince Charles

DOB: 09/22/2004

AKC RN07339302

Sire: Greatscot How Swede It Is RN01831005 06-05

Dam: CH Greatscot I Stripped For This RM3641 06-05 (Canada)

Grand Sire: CHTribuns Ralph Lauren RM3248800/01 (Sweden)

Grand Dam: CH Hjohoo's Hjo Want It Hjo Got It RM312164/01 (Sweden)

Grand Sire: Hjohoo's Hjo Got the Right Stuff SKK S48690/96 (Sweden)

Grand Dam: Alamawa's Killybracken CKC FU391992

If there are any of Charlie's relatives out there, would love to hear from you!

No worries Mark. Thanks for understanding. I know it seems ridiculous and it's very awkward for me personally, but I have to consider the 'worst case scenario' - every reference to a quality breeder will be matched, inevitably, by a reference to a breeder who is the very opposite of everything the CTCA stands for. It's not my job to judge which is which - so frankly it's easier to just leave that part out of the conversation.

Between email, PMs, chats, profiles, reading between the lines and so on, anyone who is curious can usually learn what they need to know. If I or the Publications Committee of the CTCA can figure out an appropriate guideline that's less stringent and still easy to apply, believe me, I'd like to be less restrictive. Perhaps only references to CTCA member-breeders? The club would possibly accept that, but it's a fair bit of work to have to look everyone up every time, and what if they lapse - do I have to expunge the record? :P

Note: to avoid hijacking this interesting topic - I admit I'm the one who just did! - if anyone feels the need to discuss this or any other forum guideline, Forum Support is the sub-forum to do it. Thanks!

Yes, I'm sure that's the same Einstein. Kiara was a pup in the last litter sired by him. He has since gone to Rainbow Bridge. Here's an old picture I have of him in case you never saw him.

Hey Raddy

Roxy has the some of the same names as your Bella.

Joymont Jazzman, Nawlene Hi Mist, Nawlene Hiland Strike, Nawlene Hi Cloud and Uniquecottage Grey Strike.

And Rileysmum

She has Joymont Hudson

Does this mean we are family?

She might be related to some of her US friends to, cos there are a number of Rosecroft names there, but I'm just too lazy to type the whole thing out. :D

  • 2 weeks later...

Brad your photo of Theo on the oldest Cairn post looked so much like my dog Max who passed away four months short of his 18th birthday I had to search the Cairn database. They are related very distantly. Their common ancestor is Cairncrag Alastair 1961-04-06. Isn't it funny how something like that would show through the photo? It was a combination of something in the eyes and how he held his head. My dog's sire AND dam shared this ancestor. Thought I'd copy this post to this topic too, so you might see it.

Oh ... sorry I didn't respond earlier. Theo's not mine of course, but he's a local fixture and anyone who's met him has to love him. In that picture he's wearing bells that were part of a Christmas exchange and the bells annoyed all the dogs who wore them ...until Theo, who is essentially deaf. But the silver threads of his coat ... his classic Cairn dignity (and impudence) are enough to charm anyone with a pulse!

Studying pedigrees is fascinating. You will indeed frequently find common ancestors if you go back far enough, and you're absolutely right - it's fascinating to see characteristics that have passed on from generation to generation. It's a treat to talk to the "old-timers" who have minds like encyclopedias and can tell you where certain traits have come down from.

I just looked up my babies' pedigrees for the first time in a long time. People always ask us how we can tell Olie and Teddy apart. Once I looked at the pedigrees I know why they are so similar in appearance. Going back three generations the only ancestral difference is their mothers. Otherwise it's identical!

I'm starting to wonder how many litters Pinetop Paperchase sired- Because he keeps popping up... Half the forum seems to be kissing cousins.... LOL

Funny story... Peggy's from Minnesota and we took Haggis ("Thrill of the Chase") to visit with her family and to attend the Su-Mac specialty and sweepstakes. During the sweepstakes he and another boy kept giving each other the evil eye. There were a lot of dogs, but these two did not like each other. As we looked at him and tried to imagine why, the other dog seemed to look vaguely familiar. When we looked in the catalog, sure enough ... half-brothers! Half way across the country and he picked out ''kin' to feud with :P

That is a funny story Brad! My lads, i.e., half brothers and cousins to boot certainly are totally competitive. You can't really identify the Alpha between the two.

I went back and looked at Stella's pedigree after seeing the comment from MysticSol8 about Pinetop Paperchase. It looks as if the lads and Stella have several ancestors in common including Pinetop. There's also a Wolfpit Cairn in there somewhere.

What an interesting exercize. :)

"Chase" was a lovely dog and sired many champions and near-champions - that's why you find him in so many pedigrees. He was imported from the UK.

I've loved reading the pedigrees and seeing the names of some of the dogs I remember meeting years ago. Brings back really fond memories for me.

Well I did have to go back quite far, seven generations even, before I found a common parent but I learned something about the website that is helpful. The "offspring" button which is most interesting. I do get confused however, since my dog's dam's sire's dam was his sire's dam. It is fun. Thanks again for this discussion everyone.
