Popular Post Tracy A.
You know Brad, thankfully I've never had another Sparkling Poop incident- but then again i did bar the boys from the studio after that. I had wondered if their gemstone eating ways were over, and last year I had gotten this really massive 24 ct Amethyst and I brought into the kitchen to show my husband and dropped it on the floor. Brattwurst was there, snatched it up, held it in his mouth and assumed play pose. I ended up exchanging it for some liverwurst with him. So at nearly 12, they have matured up into fine dogs.... except on occasion the jokester comes out. A few years ago I gave my aunt a pair of Peridot earrings that were part of the Cairn digestive track world tour, as a good luck charm for the Montgomery show and the Cairn charm worked, one of her dogs took BOB that weekend. She's an Airedale breeder, but i don't hold that against her. But i've started to wonder if preference of dog breed/group might be genetic...lol Oh and on a side note, I ended up finding a total of 15 stones that winter- I was never able to figure out how they got all of them, so i just barred them from the studio. gd4
LOL! Such an adorable pup. Cairns are such special little dogs. Thank you, all. I love the stories Gina Edited December 31, 2016 by gd4
LindaMC
It's so good to read that Trinity is on the mend and feeling better. My little bugger is whimpering here beside me as I type this message.....she's trying to make me feel sorry for her because I won't drop everything and play ball with her.. She such a hoot. She knows exactly how to get to me with her little soft whimpers. Cairns, you gotta love em! Anyway, it sounds like things are looking up and going in to the new year, it's a wonderful way to celebrate and be thankful. Happy New Year Trinity, Gina and family.....
gd4
Thank you so much, Linda. And, many thanks to everyone here. I don't know how I would have gotten through this last week to not find such comforting messages day and night on this forum. When I checked on her this morning, she was up and bright-eyed. Her appetite is definitely coming back. She does not appear to need as much pain meds any longer and the diarrhea stopped yesterday morning. I am cautiously optimistic at this point and now it is getting her on a game plan for future health. Like our Max, the days we have with us as we move forward are precious. Each one counts and we will take it one day at a time. Happy New Year to All - hugs Gina

Dempsy's Mom
We've been gone and I am happy to return to a good report on Trinity. Wonderful news! .... Ya know I was thinking while traveling .... it's a strange world .... and if people are dingy enough to give money to keep Betty White alive through 2016 when there is nothing wrong with the woman why not do a Go Fund Me for a help in your bills.? I don't know much about Go Fund Me but I know I have given twice to people I know that have had real issues. Is this against the rules to the forum? If so just get rid of it and I am sorry. But I feel for people that struggle with vet bills. Just throwing it out there. Happy New Year Trinity! 2 Quote Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori

Sam I Am
I don't know of any agencies where other people live, but I know in our area there are and they help people that can't afford to pay for their pets illnesses . I googled the USA and there seem to be but don't know Gina if it's in your area. Why not give it a google and perhaps you will get find financial aid to help you to continue caring in the wonderful way you have so far for Trinity. I know it won't make a difference now, but that is the reason we decided to have pet insurance. It can easily run into the thousands for critical and extended care. 2 Quote Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened. - Anatole France Adventures with Sam &Rosie
gd4
You are all so caring and I most appreciate your suggestions. Thank you Trinity just had a great meal and did her usual ritual wiping her face and flipping around the family room. Thank GOD! She is perky and really acts as if she doesn't need the Tramadol. The vet told me today to monitor as needed. He said I could cut it down to before bed to help her sleep well or go back to it if she needs it. I am feeling super blessed right now. I will cherish my days with her. Happy New Year! Gina

gd4
Thank you, all! She is still eating and getting back to herself. I am a little unsure as to how much I should be giving her the Tramadol at this point. I don't want her to be in pain; however, I don't want another med with side effects if it is not needed. So far, I am spacing it out between dosages moving from 8 hours to 12 and then, possibly once a day before bed. Gina
hheldorfer
Trinity is a tough little girl. Wonderful to hear the improvement continues. If she doesn't seem to be in pain (and only you can judge that), I don't think there's any reason to keep giving her the Tramadol - although your idea of once a day before bed sounds reasonable. From your description of her behavior (eating well, getting back to her usual friskiness) it sounds as if she feels pretty good.
gd4
Yes, she is made of the usual Cairn material --- tough girl! Trinity continues to improve. She is eating with a good appetite and having normal eliminations. The medicine is near completion so of course, I'm a little nervous. We have a specialist appointment on Friday morning so we can get a game plan going. I have stopped the Tramadol as I don't think she needs it. So very thankful... gd4
Hello, all! I wanted to offer an update for everyone as I know this may also help others in the future. Trinity is eating well and has started a specialized hypo-allergenic diet at the request of the internal medicine spec. we visited yesterday. She is currently on Hill's d/d venison and potato canned. I plan to try her on the dry to alternate and also the hypo treats by Hill's. It seems quite expensive but we will do what is needed to keep her well. She is still taking the metronidazole antibiotic and omeprazole antacid meds. Her bowel movements are regular and in good shape. She is going to see her vet this weekend to get sutures removed. I am hopeful that things will continue to improve and she will be on the road to health. Again, many thanks to you all, here! I don't know how I would have gotten through the holiday with out you Gina

Hillscreek
It was a frightening situation for you and no doubt Trinity too. You did all the the things you had to do and were able to do and now you have your reward - a dear little friend recovering very well. Congratulations! Thanks for all the details - you never know when some other cairn owner may read them and gain assistance. A lot of the time we just have fun here in our group but when serious times come we are always there for each other!
