Kirby Is Pretty Sick

Kirby's vet was able to confirm Addison's Disease yesterday afternoon.  He had his first shot of Percorten-V and first dose of Prednisone.  He'll have to have monthly shots of the Percorten and daily Prednisone for the rest of his life.  Frequent blood tests, especially early on, will be needed to regulate and monitors certain things.

We were able to bring him home last night.  He's very droopy and weak but I know he's glad to be home.  This morning, he wagged his tail happily outside and sniffed around a lot.  He's drinking in his own but still doesn't want to eat, the little rat!  I'll be syringing baby food in later this morning.  The vet thinks once the meds start working, he will perk up pretty quickly.  By later today or tomorrow we should notice some good improvement.

I'm certainly not happy that he has this disease but so glad to have a diagnosis and get started on the road to feeling better.  Thanks for all the kind words and support!

A relief to know what the problem is even though hard to take. Nevertheless with the meds balanced right he should be back to his bouncy self pretty soon.Thankful he is home.

He's a lucky little guy to have such caring uprights!

Thank goodness they found out the problem and that treatments can  be used to get him well. You are such a good mom. Have a good Thanksgiving and save some turkey for Kirby.

This is great news. Kirby when you get to feeling up to it, maybe you can swing by my place and we can go out for a rabbit dinner. My treat.

Okay, you guys.  I just read your comments after I posted about how much better Kirb is doing, and I'm tearing up.  Thanks so much for caring and your support.  This is such a great group!

Kirby wants to add that he'll take up all your offers of food.  He went from 15.5 lbs. to 13.5 lbs. while he was so sick.  He's trying to make up for it plus the prednisone is making him ravenous!

prednisone is magic (good and bad) --no matter what is wrong with you, prednisone will convince you you are cured. if your leg is broken, you walk. if your eyes are bandaged, you see (almost). and it does do wonders for the appetite.
