Puppy sick

Sharegirl,

I am so sorry you, your family AND poor little Rito have had to go through this torment. If this had happened to me, I would file a lawsuit against the petshop and the breeder of the puppy, even if only to make a statement that these types of practices should not be allowed to happen. I worry that if you purchased a sick puppy that others may have also purchased sick puppies from the same litter. No dog loving human should go through what you and your family have and absolutely no little dog should have to go through what Rito has. I hope for a miracle from God that this little creature can beat the odds and survive this ordeal.

:( I'm at a loss of words to describe how terrible I feel about Rito. I have such a bad taste in my mouth of pets stores that sell sick puppies and only hope that justcie is served w/ this store and the breeder who sold him.

Just know I haven't stopped thinking about you and this tough decision you have been faced w/. I hope you can take some legal action against this store for your loss, both financially and emotionally, your vet bills and doctor bills, and the healthrisk your family was subjected to.

I was so happy to hear some good news about this disgusting pet store I wanted to share this email that I just got from sharaegirl:

"I got people investigating my case, and a very helpful lady is doing everything for me. This case is being reported to the people on top, and things are getting done."

It turns out that she doesn't live too far away from me and I felt so horrible about what she was going through that for the first time ever I gave out my home phone number and she gave me hers. I called her yesterday and she is a delight! What makes it even tougher is that her husband is away on business so she has had to go through this all by herself.

I'm SO glad that this is getting attention. Just think of the animals that will now be saved from at least this one place.

I am very sorry for your experience, bringing a puppy into your home should have been a wonderful time. Don't give up on Cairns, they are such wonderful dogs.

There is a beautiful little rescue in NJ called Cayenne if you want to try something like that. I look at the rescues on Col Potter every week and worry about them.

I am concerened that it goes past the pet store to the breeder. What kind of breeder sells dogs to a pet store?

Hi everybody.

First of all, i want to say a big THANK YOU to everybody. You have helped me through this whole situation in a big way.

I cant write too much about Rito situation right now. The reason why is because there is a big investigation going on right now. The results for his leptospirosis came back, they are positive. Me and my daughter of 18 months, and my husband have to get blood work done. This desease is pontetially dealy to humans, so you can imagine what i am going through right now. This desease is highly contagious to human, and we treated that dog like another kid, we kissed him, hugged him. For all of you that have had a puppy know what potty training is like. The dog pee pee and poopy in the house everyday, and i picked his stools. This desease is transmitted by his stools and urine. My daughter plays on the floor a lot, she is a baby. I cleaned his accidents right when it happened. But i wondering if the bacteria can resist the cleaning products.

I am sending you all guys a big hug. Rito will not be back to us, and i dont know what will happen to him.

My main concern now is our health.

Thanks from the bottom of my heart.

Maria.

((((Maria)))) I'm so sorry to hear that Rito tested positive and that now you have to worry about the health of your family. No family should have to go through what you have these past couple of days. My prayers will now be that your test results will come back negative. I'm just so sorry.

I am so sorry for everything that has happened to you and to find out the test is positive....you are definately a strong person and please believe everything will turn out okay.

I did some research on Lepto and it can be treated with antibiotics. It is found most often in warmer climates and can live a long time in mud, water, damp soil....

If Rito came from where I'm thinking he did, this broker does business with the mills in the southern states. It all makes sense. I shudder to think of all the other pups in that location, the pups who had contact with the sick ones, the pet shops who will try and sell them and the poor people who wil buy them and go through what you are.

It's got to stop.

Stay strong and please keep in touch with all of us here who care so deeply for you and your family.

These "people" have no conscience when it comes to what they are doing to these poor animals - but to not care about what the dogs can do to the people who buy them in just unfathomable.

~~~~***RITO IS BACK***~~~~!!!!!
Last Monday I was gladly surprised when i got a phone call letting me know that dog was healthy.
Up until Monday I didnt even know if the dog was alive, and I had made up my mind for the worse. Although not a day went by without me thinking about Rito.
Yesterday, Friday evening he finally got home. He recognized me as soon as he saw me... he gained a lot of weight and got a little bigger. He is healthy and full of energy.
A big thank you and a hug for all of you that followed my story and encouraged me not to give up.
I am so very happy that your story had a happy ending. A friend of mine had the same problem with a pet store, but it was for a lab. It was discovered at 8 months that the pups hips were already totally shot and probably not fixable. It couldn't even walk anymore. This person had put so much time and money trying to help this pup and when it was finally said that it would be best to put the dog down, she went nuts at that pet store. All they had to say was they would give her a discount on her next dog and to bring that one back. How cold and cruel!!! Then this pet store had it's own "personal vet" that you had to take your pup to for it's first check up. This pet store and vet obviously were in on things together, because obviously each pup came out with a clean bill of health. She refused to go to theirs and took the next pup to her own and spent a fortune to make sure everything was right. All said and done I gave her a lecture of buying at pet stores (something I did not even know until I was finding my cairn). They are so badly treated. I have said my piece.
:thumbsup: That's great news! I'm so happy for you and Rito. He was definitely meant for you. I bet that's a phone call you'll never forget and I'm so glad they remember to call you first when he was ready to be placed in a home. It's so great to read a happy ending to a story that really upset me.
Maria, I have often thought of you and Rito over the last few months. I wondered what became of him. I am weeping tears of joy right now for both of you. Such a brave little boy who didn't give up his life, and you, his wonderful companion who never gave up the fight for him. God has many blessed years planned for you and him, I believe. He looks absolutely adorable. Please keep us posted on how things go at home.
