Shelters will not accept products such as dog food or supplements that have been opened.   As well they shouldn't, for a multitude of reasons.   However, if you purchased the product through your vet's office they may give you a refund if you explain that you are unhappy with the item.   They will discard any opened purchases for you.

If you are just giving the opened product to a friend, I guess that is between you and that person.

 I know this, it’s not open at all the package is boxed up, And the woman from my church is a vet tech and she is very happy to take it. And the place that I bought it from told me I didn’t have to return it just to donate it.😇

Sounds good.  You would be surprised how many people try to donate opened food items and such to food pantries and shelters.
