I am having trouble getting out dog to us

We found a breeder and a Cairn in British Columbia, Canada. We live in Massachusetts. We havr to get him here, but I am encountering so many problems. With times, custom, long hours in the plane, and finally huge costs(over $400). Does anyone have any suggestions? Anywhere, that can make this process easier. I am desparate, because we really want this dog, but getting here is getting overwhelming :(
