Rusty
We picked up our little Cairn puppy last week, and we call him Rusty. He is a red brindle, and is quite the little character. Loves to run around and play in the snow. This is our first puppy. We are likely to get another Cairn puppy, but I think we should wait a year at least I think till this guy matures abit first. Thoughts? He was born with a bend in his tail. It doesnt seem to bother him at all, and I think makes him a little bit unique anyways.
bradl
My gosh those are cute pictures. I'd wait until Rusty is two, personally. CAIRNTALK: Questions? Jessica H
I think a year is fine. I waited until Scooter was 9 months and I had no problems. They love each other so much and I have NEVER had issues of them fighting each other or going into frenzies with each other like others speak about. They are inseparable, cuddle together, follow each other around, etc. I love it. When I take them in public Sadie actually hides behind Scooter like he is her big brother protecting her. You'd think she'd hide behind me but its mostly him. Maybe it is because they were so young when introduced, not sure. Rusty
Some updated pictures of Rusty taken last week. He is almost 7lbs now, just over 3 months old. He enjoys sniffing out every corner of the yard and chewing on all the sticks and chasing any leaves that blow around. Most of our neighbours have dogs too, so they all get to meet each other along our chain link fence. The snow is melting so the yard is wet and muddy, so we give him a quick rinse off in the tub after he's done playing in the yard. Last weekend was the nicest weather we've had this year, and he loved to be outside. Once the hiking trails clear up abit and after his next vaccination shots, we'll be taking him in the bush for walks near our house. I'd love to be able to walk him with the leash off in the bush, but I doubt he'd stick close to me or come when I call him. We're still considering getting a 2nd Cairn puppy. We were pretty much decided to wait a year, but we now have an opportunity to get a female dark brindle at a very good price from the same breeder in May. I am seriously considering buying her. I'd like to go through the puppy stage once now (dealing with house training) than do it over again, in a year.
Shazza
What a cutie! We had our first Cairn, Miya for 3 months, then decided we wanted another. I contacted the breeder and she had 3 males to choose from, that's how we ended up with Max. (darker one) They are so funny together and the best of friends. Now they are both potty trained at the same time! Max just turned 1 last week and Miya turned 1 in January. It all depends on the individual I think, I'm glad we had both potty training at the same time. Miya Max
toomanypaws
First off I want to say that Rusty is absolutely adorable! Spacing age out is a matter of preference. My first cairn, Kiara was 2 1/2 when Abbey came along. Kiara welcomed Abbey and they are still very close. We had the opportunity to get another cairn when Abbey was only 6 mths. I sometimes wish we had waited and enjoyed Abbey as being the "baby" a bit longer. Abbey regressed w/ potty training for a while until the new pup, Hannah was housetrained and actually retaught Abbey. It was more work having the two so close in age, but I wouldn't trade any of them for anything. <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/maiwag/terriersiggy.jpg" border="0" class="linked-sig-image" /> Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)

Rusty
Well its pretty much done. I told the breeder last night that we would take another Cairn. We should get her mid May when she is ready to come home. Attached is a picture of her from the breeder along with some of her littermates. We are going to call her Grace. I saw somewhere on this site names people gave their Cairns and my girlfriend really liked the name Grace, so we will name her that, but I suspect most the time she'll be called Gracie instead We're gonna be busy this summer! Thistle
Oh I want another puppy! I don't think I'd be able to bring two to work though and I couldn't bear having to leave one at home.
tlwtheq
Cairn babies are so dear. I'm going to have to take a tip from whomever made those shots and try putting my guys on a red background when the camera comes out. It's still hard because they're all 3 so dark, and our house, as a rule, isn't well lit. Thanks for sharing your new child with us. Gunn1
Too cute!! I love the kink in the tail; those are the things that really give a dog character - couldn't be anyone but Rusty! I love the one of him running too - captures the life in him. Enjoy the new puppy - you'll have so many laughs just watching them playing and being daft. We've only had our 2nd for a couple of months and I just can't imagine the house without her in it. They'll test your patience, but they're so worth it Dibble & Puku

Rusty
We picked up our 2nd puppy this past weekend from the breeder. Her name is Grace. She is almost 9 weeks old now. She is really quiet and not hyper like Rusty. Rusty and her play fight alot... it kinda escalates into a frenzy after about 10 min and I have to separate them - they are fine, but its just loud and sounds vicious - plus I think Grace gets kinda mad and snappy at Rusty 'cause he is almost 10lbs now and is able to push her 3.8lbs over easily so its hard for her to get away from him when she has had enough - she does charge him and try to put the run to him too, which is funny to see considering the size difference. They share their food very well, and we really have no problems with her or them together, other than the escalating play fighting. So far its going ok - its alot of work with two pups, it can be frustrating at times, but we'll get through the puppy phase this summer all at one time. Rusty
Here is a updated picture of my pups taken in June. We took them camping for the weekend at a bike race we go to. They got to see and interact with lots of people and other dogs that were there. I am not confident to let them off leash just yet in that type of environment. I haven't got them trained to come back on command yet, so when we are out in a open area, they are always on the leashes. Grace has grown quite abit since this picture, she is over 10lbs now. Rusty is a big suck - he enjoys snuggle up to our feet when we are sitting down at the couch, and always enjoys a car ride - but he has to have his sleep in the passenger's lap of course! I switched them from Royal Canine Puppy 33 food to Canidae ALS awhile back and they seem to be doing well on that food. I really enjoy my pups.
