spa
The Cairn Terrier History Yahoo!Group [CTH] has ceased to exit. The CTH was always intended as a temporary, stop-gap measure pending the creation of an Internet archive under the supervision of regional and / or national breed clubs. The CTCA Corresponding Secretary's recent e-mail to me indicates that the CTCA is committed to the creation of such an archive in the near future. In light of recent cut-backs in funding for the AKC's archival functions, the efforts of breed clubs to document and preserve club and breed history are necessary in order for the clubs to insure their compliance with constitutional duties. For this reason, private efforts, such as the CTH, need to be mainstreamed with historical conservation efforts conducted by the breed clubs in order to save time and energy in the name of efficiency. I will, of course, be happy to hear from any CTH alums and others. It is my hope that all Cairnites will share relevant items from their private collections with their national and regional clubs in an effort to make the conservation and republication of these items a priority. spa
Thanks Valerie, I think congratulations may be a bit premature. The Filippi Report was an important first step. It is true to say that the matter is out of my hands but the CTCA folks-in-charge have "miles to go. . ." as the Frost poem says. Clarence Vaughn has all of the CTH files and Karen Filippi is trying to make arrangements for their transfer. These files need to be: 1) transferred to Karen Filippi, the CTCA Librarian/Archivist; 2) formatted and cataloged; 3) reviewed and approved by Pauli Christy, the CTCA Historian; and 4) placed in an Internet Archive (perhaps by Brad LaBroad?). I have no idea how long this process will take. Sincerely, Sean
