My chest swelled with pride.....

Barney's Mom

Recommended Posts

Sunday at our dog park, it was time for Barney and I to go home and I realized I had no treats to get him to come to me!! So regardless, I called Barney, who was at least two acres away from me. He looked up when he heard my call, ran like a bolt of lightning to my feet and SAT, looking up at me with his big brown eyes as if to say, "Yea, Mom? Whatcha need?" I clipped on his leash and walked out of that park feeling as proud as could be.

I think I am finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel that all you folks told me about!

All creatures great and small, the Lord God, He made them all!

Yeah Barney! What a good boy!

Every time I think Currey is actually listening to a "come" command at the dog park, he does a "fly-by" - runs right at me and just keeps on going!!!! I'm jealous!

It has often been said if you have a Cairn Terrier in your home for a year you will have one for the rest of your life

Good going, Barney! I assume this dog park is all fenced in? Our yard is quite huge and I love it when I yell "come on girls" and all three come running. There still are those times that Kiara is caught up in a hunt and I have to walk out to about 50 ft away from her and firmly call her. Her ears go back in a look of defeat and she forgoes her hunt to obey my command. The challenge of owning a Cairn sure adds excitement to life!

Oh well done. It must feel great to have that connection with your dog.

Unfortunately this is not so with my 2 yo Fergus. There can be up to 16 of us in the park (not a dog park) and Fergus avoids me like the plague when I call him, holding a treat in my hand and hiding his lead behind my back. Fortunately, the 15 other ladies there know what he is like so they all join in in trying to entice him to them. Works every time. Let's just hope he never cottons on to the fact that he id being duped!

Welly and (cover your eyes) Fergus

Veni, vidi, velcro - I came, I saw, I stuck around
