OzGirl
Last Friday we got the offer of 5 days free accomodation at a beach house about 180kms from home (with my sister's family). We were allowed to take the girls so we jumped at the chance, my sis also brought her dog (a lab cross). The girls had an absolute blast, we went swimming each day and took long walks down the beach. They were really good in statying with us - so I did the unimaginable and let them run free... sometimes dragging their long leads but a couple of times no leads. They seemed to not want to leave the pack (us), they would go and sniff other dogs but always came back quickly to make sure we were still where they left us. On our walks they would run ahead down the beach with Maddy (sis's dog) but always came running back to us. I did keep them on leads one day cos they were being little and jumping on other people sitting on the beach and there were a number of blow fish (highly toxic) lying around that day and Susie picked a couple up but luckily didn't bite them. We discovered that they like to swim and even though they got dumped a couple of times they loved to swim out to join us. It was a great to see how well they travelled and setttled in a strange place cos we have a holiday booked in about a week and they are coming with us then too. About the only downside was that the property around the house was full of prickles so we spent lots of time pulling those little round burrs out of their fur. savannahsmom35
I am SOOOO jealous! I would love to take Savannah to the beach!!! We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made. -M. toomanypaws
Those are great pictures. That 2nd picture could pass for Hannah. I'm like Liz, tho in that I wouldn't let mine off lead. I seriously doubt Hannah would take off, but it's not worth the chance of finding out. I need to take mine to the beach once it warms up. Only Hannah has gone, and she loved it. <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/maiwag/terriersiggy.jpg" border="0" class="linked-sig-image" /> Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)

Cairn Luvr
I wouldn't let mine off lead I wouldn't either -- mine would keep on going, so keeping a lead on them, while they drag it - is a great option too. I'm jealous of people that can do this ...
OzGirl
You are much braver than me I won't let mine off leash. I've never let them run free before either, but they showed such strong tendences to want to stay with their "pack" they didn't even want to walk down the beach with me if the kids were still in the water, I think they thought they needed saving. It was so far from everywhere and there was nine of us to watch them so really it was the ideal time to give it a go. I hope they didn't enjoy the freedom too much cos it won't be happening now we are back home.
