What Do You Feed Your Cairn?

I have a new Cairn pup.... Scamp is only 12 weeks old. Currently I am feeding him what was suggested by his 1st vet visit ... Nutro Max Puppy. I am very open to suggestion from tried-and-true Cairn owners!!! I know most vets "push" whatever brand they have deals with, so I want the TRUTH!!! hehe

So... what is best for these doggies? I've heard talk about a raw diet... please explain.

Thanks!

Kim

Hi! My puppy Riley - - 9 months old - - was born with a liver shunt and could not keep any food down. He had surgery and the vets at Cornell University suggested natural dog food for him - - I feed him Natural Balance and "Chicken Soup" for the puppy lovers soul!!!! dog food! These are all natural meat and veggie based dog foods and after experimenting with so many others, these are the only 2 that he can eat and has amazing results with. Since his surgery he has gone from 7 pounds - - in October - - to 12 pounds and is thriving! I will also feed him bland vegetables that I make - - his favorites are broccoli and a combination mashed potato and turnip blend. Many of the other dog foods have too much fat in them. I don't know if you can purchase these in your area but - - even tho a little expensive - -these are good products. I only feed him the dry food.

CCD,

you only feed him the dry food- Whew!

Last month I thought you meant the canned. I bought Wes a couple of cans at first, but when I opened the third, I knew something must've been wrong with them. They smelled like gasoline.

Turned out that particular shipment had a canning problem.

Hi Sally - - the only canned dog food I ever gave Riley was prescription from Cornell - - I supplement his dry dog food with bland veggies and sometimes some broiled chicken chopped real fine. He doesn't have a problem with that stuff but most dairy and cheeses seem to make him a little sick.
