Aurora5000 Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 We just got our Mars Coat King from Groomersmall.com, we decided to get the #12 stripping tool as recommended by several in this group. Boy, does that work well. It got off the dead baby coat hair on Gus (7 months old) and Chase his older brother. It works very easy. Just glide it across hair always with the grain. Between the both of them, we got off 20 small balls of hair. They both now look great. Didn"t do the head or legs too much. Was recommended you wait until 2 years before that grooming. Also got the Classic 7" 30-Tooth Thinning Shears for fine trimming. Haven't used yet. A great tool for any dog. You must give some time to your fellow men. Even if it's a little thing, do something for others - something for which you get no pay but the privilege of doing it. -Albert Schweitzer (1875 - 1965) Chase and Gus video Youtube- Best of Chase and Gus Cairn Terrierists It's because cats simply can't be trusted for heavy lifting & dirty work required in the war on terrior.
Saidi'sDad Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Yes, it's a wonder tool. Got ours a few weeks ago and everybody keeps asking me if Saidi has lost weight Having some problems on her tail and legs but most of that is just her getting tired of it. I was very surprised that she does not mind it at all when I groom around her face and ears. Seems like that would be more of a problem than the legs and tail Saidi's Dogster page (by her loving upright sister)
tena Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Sophie loves the coat king...except the unders and on one hip. Those areas usually require a bit of a struggle. Sophie
toomanypaws Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 When I bought the MCK close to 2 yrs ago, someone recommended the #16 for me. I'm wondering if there's a big difference. Also, does anyone know how long the blades last? Can they be sharpened or do you have to replace them? <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/maiwag/terriersiggy.jpg" border="0" class="linked-sig-image" /> Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
Lesley Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 I have the 16 blade - the best tool I own. Not sure, but I think you can purchase replacement blades. No cairn owner should be without this remarkable gadget !
bayfeet Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 I picked up a medium and fine based on this original post. What a wonderful grooming tool. Are these similar to a stripping knife? Pulled a significant amount of hair off of Herc. Would the Coat King replace regular grooming?
