What is the worst thing your Cairn has ate?

Hollie and Brystal being the cute little "terrors" that they can be... well let's just say I think they'll eat anything - literally anything. We've had a lot of rain the last few days - solid rain infact which of course is causing slugs and worms to come up and camp out on the patio - a complete invitation for the girls to nibble on anything that looks like it's crawling. Before I could get it out of her mouth Hollie swallowed or somewhat chewed a slug... lovely. Diaherea soon followed - although I can't determine if the slug caused it. Brystal is way more fond of the earthworms and nightcrawlers, we will attempt to eat rolly pollies, spiders if they move wrong (scary), Brystal brought me peanuts and apple slices (I suspect I have a neighbor feeding baby squirrels behind my house). I of course had to fish them out of her mouth. Brystal loves my oregano and spinach leaves.... quite honestly I think they'll eat just anything.... except what they're supposed to be eating....

No has become my favorite word, it's all I say - I just walk around saying it now every other second. What's the worst thing your Cairn has eaten for sport?

When Darcy was a puppy, she would eat her own poop!!! Sounds disgusting, I know, but I understand since being on this site, it's not that unusual. I was horrified when I saw her eating her poop at about age 2 months and called the vet immediately. He just kinda laughed at me. Then you have the usual stuff that a Cairn will get into: sticks, small pebbles, she chewed up a corner of my bottom kitchen cabinet, etc. She hasn't brought me a dead anything yet, but I'm expecting something like that any day.

kitty poo and part of a used bounce dryer sheet. Oh, and the cotton part off the end of a q-tip (not used thankfully).

rabbit poop. Yuck! Belle used to eat her own poop, too, especially when she pooped in the house...hiding the evidence?

Alfie ate a dead bird -- the whole thing. He quickly swallowed it when I tried to have him spit it out. Later he threw up and you can see the feathers  I tried to flush it down the toilet but the feathers kept on floating up and sticking to the side of the bowl :sick:

A tube of my husbands psoriasis medication.......I was not a happy camper after spending many hours at the emergency vet by myself.

Funny you should start this thread today!

About 20 minutes ago, my husband was home for lunch and accidentally dropped a package of fig newtons on the floor. Barney took off like lightning and got about 5 in his little mouth and WOULD NOT let them go. I got 2 and a half cookies out of his mouth and the rest were history! The only consolation is that they were organic fig newtons! No chemicals or junk going in him at least! But I am anticipating the diarhea soon.....

With Barney, anything dropped is fair game......

Gus drug in a baby bird he had played with. Did not eat it. He was so proud of it.

At the dog show, a lady told me her Great Dane ate a Gatorade bottle, emergency surgery was just moments away. Every thing turned out OK.

Scouts would have to be worms, bird ppp, and toe nail clippings (double yuk!)

Finch's would have to be a mouse (dound the skull in her mouth), other dogs poo...not her own, and honey. She got into a huge bucket of honey that was in the pantry. Boy, she was physicallly ill after the honey!

:sick:The worst have been dead birds or squirrels along out walking route. The worst was a dead squirrel a few months back that had been mashed flat ( about 1/2 inch thick) by passing cars and thrown onto a lawn by a snowplow so it was in Renny's reach. It was so flat that I thought it was a piece of tree bark, since it was almost dark out at the time.

Another time he grabbed a small dead bird concealed by tall grass. It was entirely in his mouth except for the wings sticking out on either side. I did manage to get it away from him, but as a result of that little episode, have added Band-aids to our walking supplies.

A week or so ago, late at night in my back yard he ate a moth that was so large it's body was bigger than my thumb.

He also considers the cat's hairballs to be a warm snack.

In the kitchen, if I drop a food item, I don't even try to pick it up since it's gone instantly on hitting the floor. Fortunately, he will not go down the stairs into the basement, so he doesn't know about the snack buffet ( better known as a litter box ) lurking down there.

Guess there isn't much that they won't at least taste!

This really must be a Cairn thing to eat "stuff." Angus has eaten deer poop in Colorado and I thought he would barf up his own tail he was so sick. Since we've been back in FL, he delights in eating dried earth worms, bunny poop, and tissues from the trash. He also loves blueberries, peanut butter, and most other things that would be considered yummy by our standards. He cannot tolerate dairy products, even yogurt makes him barf. That has always been a staple for the other dogs we've had in our lives.

We hadnt had a dog in the yard for about 3 or 4 years when we got the girls, so deer had starting visiting us a lot...so there was a bit of deer poop around and they acted like that was chocolate and would act like crazy dogs to get it....I think once the deer got the scent of the dogs they stopped coming in so close. They also had a thing for the dark crappy clumps of grass from the underside of the mower...oh my god, how gross is that?!?! They'd still eat it if i let them, but now they dont go nuts around it. weird huh? and of course rabbit poop...it's always a delicacy!

Kiara has killed many lizards and frogs, but I haven't seen her eat them. I think the bitter spray from the frog keeps her from chomping down hard on them. Snakes have no escape w/ her. She will shake one inside out. I swear I've never seen a dog shake her head like Kiara. I caught her chewing the snake guts and it made me sick. The worst thing for Abbey was this 4" stuffed mouse that was a cat toy she somehow picked up while running through the house. I would have never thought she was capable of throwing something that big up, but glad she did. The worst thing for Hannah was when she was a puppy and got one of my dh's high blood presure medicine pills that he had accidently dropped in the bathroom. We made her drink peroxide/water mix until she threw up. Thank goodness my dh is now off that medication.

Teona will still eat Tabby's poop

Let's see.... Teona has chewed a tube of JB weld, eaten an entire set of ear plugs (the kind with a plastic cord in the middle), baby bird, q-tips, and phone antennas. I'm sure their is much much more.

Here's one that always made me want to  !

Our Lab and Collie mix had a thing for the litter box. He would go down and carefully pluck the poops out with his teeth! He would come back up to the top of the basement stairs, chewing on his new treat! The major gross-out was that I used clumping cat litter, so his teeth were usually caked with litter, and his breath smelled like litter box + dog breath! Double :sick: !

Barney doesn't have access to Cali's area (yet) so who knows what fun we will have in the future with cat poop! Knowing Barney, I am SURE he will get into it!

Tena, I just about laughed myself out of my chair when I read that yours ate an entire flip flop and a tube sock!!! Hope everything "came out" okay.

BTW, do we really want these precious critters giving us doggy kisses after all these "treats" they seem to be consuming? Ugh, talk about doggy breath.

Roxy and Susie just love going to the local park and snacking on lovely fresh roo poo. They both also love it when someone leaves the laundy door open and they can get to the kitty snack box.

They both do a good job of keeping my snail population down, but don't forget to roll in the half chewed snail before you finish eating it.

Roxy was just about through the chewing everything stage when we got Susie, but Susie still chews anything within her reach and now Roxy is back to chewing again.

Good to know Loki isn't the only Cairn that tries to eat anything dead or alive! He loves looking for those worms every morning. Lately he seems determined to eat the cats ears!! Needless to say she doesn't appreciate that at all. Good thing for him she has been declawed. Good thing for her she can jump the gate and he can't and boy does that make him mad! She will sit right on the other side of the gate like haha you can't get me!

Of course after starting this thread - I figured my angels ... couldn't possibly get into much trouble in their puppy play pen - yep I come home - they've moved it all the way to the kitchen sink - which is a long ways in my kitchen - got it over the rug and ate it. Poop was everywhere, pee was everywhere - rubber backing from the rug was everywhere - not to mention the string of rug weave - this was the first household casualty. I think I handled it well - I yelled - felt like crying but looked at them like I still love you eventhough you're destroying things now... It's so hard to be mad at anything so cute - they use their puppy eyes against us.....
