Help with names for our new puppy

Recommended Posts

We are expecting a new puppy in our home on the 19th. We've been trying to come up with that perfect name for our new little boy. So far we can't agree on a name and I was hoping someone might have a few suggestions. We want the name to be unique but nothing over the top. Please help!! :)

You may also want to visit Dogster.com. I have a good time looking at all the unusual names! When we named our Cairn (female), Finch, she was the only one on Dogster with that name....for a long time! Last time I looked, there are now 4 Finch's.

We've narrowed the search down to four names. Thanks to everyone who replyed to our first post.

The following are the names we have selected. Tell us what you think!

1) Ozzy (our puppy is from Kansas like Toto from the Wizard of Oz)

2)Connor (scottish meaning wise)

3)Benji

4)Gizmo (from the movie Gremlins)

Ozzy is a great name. Choosing a name is not easy! We started about 2 weeks before we picked him up. I have no idea how much time I spent on the web searching. I must have written down at least 50+ names then we narrowed the list down to about 5. We waited a few days after we brought him home to make the final decision. And we certainly chose the name that fits his character and personality .. Loki.. ( God of mischief ) I sure love my little devil  Good luck on choosing a name.

We spent weeks thinking of a perfect name for our pup. However, it wasn't until we brought him home and got to know him for a day or two. Then allt he names when out the door, and we named him "Digger". No. 1 because he loves to dig, and #2 because a man told us that was the name of the scottish soliders in the ditches in life times past. Haven't had time to verify that, but it fit him better than any other name we could think of before we got him home.

I like Ozzy and Gizmo alot...they are cute. My animals name's seem to fit their personality...Sophie, the little lady, Buster a huge and hulking Tom (altered) cat and Hunny an orange angora with a docile temperment.

Why not just skip the middle man and call him "Gremlin"? My two little :halo: /  's are called 'Little Gremlin's" esp. when they are being naughty..... or if I find a mess that one of them left......

Very fititng name......

Tracy, Amos, Walter, Brattwrust & Mettwurst a.k.a The Gremlins

i vote Gizmo, there are times when i look at my 2 boys and they need their hair stripped , and i think; i should have named one of them Gizmo, it just would be perfect. (unless, you like scottish names, which is how I named my boys, Brodie and Aidan) good luck, and enjoy!!!

We named Barney after Barney Fife of Andy Griffith fame, but after living with him for 2 months, we came up with two that would have been really much better:

Hoover: He cleans up everything on the floor.....crumbs, food, paper napkins, paper towels, etc. etc.

And even more appropriate than Hoover is

RASCAL!

All creatures great and small, the Lord God, He made them all!

Go right ahead!! :)

I don't anticipate more than one Cairn in my life right now! Barney = 3 dogs + trouble! :P

I do wish we would have named him Rascal. That was one of my name choices before we got him, but my DH voted it down!

Now he is realizing it would have been absolutely perfect!

All creatures great and small, the Lord God, He made them all!
