Barney's Mom Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 OK, I want an opinion poll here! My husband and I share this strange enjoyment and I wondered if we are the only ones! OK, here goes.....do any of you just LOVE the smell of your dog's paws??? I don't know what it is, but I just love the smell of Barney's paws!!! They have such a warm, cuddly smell....kinda like sweet smelling fur and grass! Feel free to call me a strange bird, or just tell me I am not the only one!! I can see it now!! Those of you who have never sniffed your dog's feet are getting really curious and walking over to your dog and trying to grab a paw and check it out! All creatures great and small, the Lord God, He made them all!
Kathryn Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 I love the smell of Allie's feet -- and of her coat -- and generally just the smell of Allie. The smell of warm fuzzy earthy dog. We've had this discussion before on the forum too, and I think you have a lot of company.
goforette Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 See what you guys have done .....now I have to go home after work and smell Hollie and Brystal..... I can just see Chris now... honey why are sniffing the dogs..... (oh boy)..... Hollie Edelbrock & Brystal Sonoma Chris, Stacy and Little Noah
CathyAnn Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 Nope, you are definitely not alone !! In previous discussions, many have described their Cairn's feet as "Frito Feet". I tried a search and couldn't find the thread. Anyone?? Cathy and Piper
tena Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 I am a closet ear freak...I could stroke, kiss, sniff or otherwise cuddle Sophie's ears for hours....and her little stumpy tail...it does things to my heart. Her feet? not so much Sophie
Scully'sMom Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 All I could think about when I saw this post was the "Frito feet" smell. I remember being SO relieved that I wasn't imagining it. I just love the overall smell of Scully - especially when she's up on our bed and I'm kissing her little kisses on her head when she's sleeping. I'll have to wait until no one's around and try smelling her feet...LOL!
Barney's Mom Posted June 15, 2006 Author Posted June 15, 2006 Omigosh! Barney's feet DO smell like Fritos!!! After I read the replies to my post, I ran upstairs and gave his little feet another sniff! He didn't really like me doing this, of course, but I got a good sniff and just said outloud to myself, "They do smell like Fritos!" My neighbors must think I'm crazy.... I wonder what makes them smell like that??????? Besides that lovely smell, I just love Cairn feet! Their feet look like bear paws! His feet look so cute when he is laying on his belly in the "superdog" position, with his feet straight out in front and back! I am so used to looking at the little pink pads of my calico cat! Barney's pads are black. Do all colors of Cairns have black pads on their feet, or do lighter coated dogs have light colored pads? Just curious..... I am so relieved that I don't have issues!!! All creatures great and small, the Lord God, He made them all!
mrskti Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 ok, you'll think i'm nuts.....Dori smells like cookies.....i love her.... Terry, mom of Dori and Ellie Mae

CathyAnn Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 Thanks, Brody's Mom! That thread is hilarious! Cathy Cathy and Piper
toomanypaws Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 Ahh yes, the smell of Frito Feet. We are a select bunch here to appreciate our Cairn's smell. Mine swim in their pool almost daily which keeps them smelling fresh, except those Frito Feet. I posted this before, now you newbies know how I came up w/ this photo idea. <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/maiwag/terriersiggy.jpg" border="0" class="linked-sig-image" /> Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
kayharley Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 I honestly never sniffed their feet.....massaged them, clipped the fur around and under them but never checked their smell. Today I will...
Scully'sMom Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 LOL! I think we all need therapy. Brad can be our Dr. Phil!
tlwtheq Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 I am a closet ear freak...I could stroke, kiss, sniff or otherwise cuddle Sophie's ears for hours....and her little stumpy tail...it does things to my heart. Her feet? not so much I'm with Tena...ears are my big weakness..no one's ears are safe. Max and Nelly
savannahsmom35 Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 The pads on Savannah's frito feet are black too. We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made. -M. Acklam Savannah's Dogster Page
JazzMom Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 Okay - I had to go sniff too Sheri, Mom to Jazz & Alex
Darcy's Mom Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 It's too funny this subject should come up today. Last night with Darcy draped across the back of the sofa and my back I had a great chance to sniff her little paws and I remembered all the previous postings way back about how their Cairns' feet smelled like Frito feet. She still has that Frito smell at 2 1/2 yrs. of age.
goforette Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 Yep Chris and I smelled Hollie and Brystal's feet - they indeed to smell like Fritos..... well at least I know it's a scent all to them - so I don't spend hours trying to wash it off! HA! Do Cairns like to swim? I have a baby wading pool should they take a splash bath? Hollie Edelbrock & Brystal Sonoma Chris, Stacy and Little Noah
Scully'sMom Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 goforette, they LOVE to swim. I have a baby pool that I can't keep Scully out of. As soon as I put the hose in there, she jumps right in and "swims' in circles endlessly. For some reason, she loves to paw at the water on the sides of the pool. Some of the moms and dads here have "for real" pools as I call them, as opposed to little plastic ones. You should see their Cairns swim! When I get home I'll post a picture of Scully in her pool.
Scully'sMom Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 goforette, this is a picture of Scully in her pool. And this is her OTHER fascination with water - watching the toilet flush. (We're SO proud!)
OzGirl Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 When I first read the previous thread on "Frito feet" I had to Google 'Frito" cos I had no idea what you guys where talking about. We just call them corn chips over here... and yep their feet do smell like that. Is it just cairns or do other little dogs have the same smell on their feet? My sister's lab's feet don't smell the same.
mrseggcup Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 Eli's upright here, for a change. I have a theory about the Frito feet. Dogs sweat from their feet. I think if you feed your dog any product that contains corn, they will sweat the odor out their feet. Like uprights sweat onions thru their pores. Perhaps our esteemed leader (Brad, not Eli ) can comment on this. Eli doesn't get any corn products b/c of my experiences with other dogs. But I gotta admit, his feet smell like.................. something!
bradl Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 *sniff* *sniff* I smell like onions? Could be worse. CAIRNTALK: Questions? Need help? → Support Forum Please do not use PMs for tech support CRCTC: Columbia River Cairn Terrier Club | 2025 Calendar
