we-love-izzy Posted June 3, 2006 Posted June 3, 2006 Hi Everyone, Just wanted to introduce us.. I'm Kasey.. I've enjoyed reading all of the great info on your board and absolutely adore all of your pictures! I'm a stay at home mom of three (uprights) + one new baby, Izzy. Hopefully I can get some pics to show. She's brand new, just brought her home yesterday. She's been great so far, and I'm already head over heels for her!! This is my first Cairn , not sure why i've waited so long for one, lol. Thanks for reading! kasey
bradl Posted June 3, 2006 Posted June 3, 2006 Aw, look at that puppy fuzz! I see in the second pic she's taking a short break from the computer. Our kind of Cairn! Enjoy... CAIRNTALK: Questions? we-love-izzy Posted June 3, 2006 Author Posted June 3, 2006 Thanks so much! She's got the sweetest spunkiest personality I have ever seen in a puppy this small! She's also been very easy about taking out to go pee, compared to a shih zhu I had who was impossible.. Also she sleeps mostly through the night and only wakes me up early in the morning. She's a dream.. only gripe is she's got it in for the corner of one rug.. hehe. I've just been trying to focus her attention elsewhere. She has a chew toy that she loves to carry in her mouth all over the place, it's so cute because its almost as big as she is. One question, were any of your puppies not interested in eating too much? You kind of have to sit with her and encourage her to eat her puppy food.. But she'll spend the morning with her nose to the kitchen floor like she's looking for crumbs. She ate a couple of pcs of my sons cereal he dropped and then that was it..nose to floor.. I've tried moistening the puppy food.. it's the Eukanuba puppy for small breeds. I do not believe in table food feeding. It drives me crazy to see my in laws do that.. Thanks for reading! Her checkup with the vet is Monday so I will ask him all of this too. Totally smitten with Izzy, kasey

Yes, previous puppies i've had will go through phases of not wanting to each much. I think it has to do a lot with cutting new teeth. I would do 1/2 soaked and 1/2 dry, or if they were really cutting a lot of new teeth I would go to all soaked dry food. I had mett & Bratt on the Eukanuba small breed puppy, in fact I still have a few coupons left over- they expire 6/30/06- If your interested PM me and i'll mail them to you. mrskti Posted June 3, 2006 Posted June 3, 2006 Kasey, first of all, Izzy is a baby doll!!!! And second, get a bottle of bitter apple to spray the corner of the rug, it will do the trick. And she'll eat when she's hungry. Cute little girl. Terry, mom of Dori and Ellie Mae
Scully'sMom Posted June 3, 2006 Posted June 3, 2006 I am in LOVE!!! Izzy is absolutely adorable. You are going to have just so much fun with her and she'll bring a lot of love to your home. Scully wasn't too interested in eating either for awhile and my vet put my fears to rest and said, "When she's hungry, she'll eat." Now....she's too fat! Welcome to the crew here and we look forward to more pictures of your baby.
tena Posted June 3, 2006 Posted June 3, 2006 Sophie only eats if someone sits in the kitchen with her........odd but true. Izzy is very cute indeed Sophie
toomanypaws Posted June 4, 2006 Posted June 4, 2006 What a precious little puppy. While it's not as big of a concern for older Cairns when they turn their nose up to food, a young puppy is still at a critical state in needing nutrition. They can become hypoglycemic. Is Izzy (cute name) eating the same food the breeder was feeding? Take you concern to your vet and let us know how she is doing. <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/maiwag/terriersiggy.jpg" border="0" class="linked-sig-image" /> Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
Padfoot Posted June 4, 2006 Posted June 4, 2006 Oh my goodness, don't you just want to kiss that fuzzy little face!!! On the food, I found my pup start eating like gangbusters when I wet down her food with some water. Before that, she would act hungry but then only eat one or 2 pieces and then just sit there looking sad. I would hand-feed her one piece at a time and she would eat, but that was just plain ridiculous. Wetting the food made all the difference. But I would also say that I think some dogs just don't go for food the same way others do. Our other Cairn has never been one of those dogs who rushes to the bowl when you put it down. He eats when he feels like it, and you never can predict the time. Since we got the puppy, he is eating more quickly because he doesn't want her to have his food, but other than that, he just isn't an eager eater. Your pup may be the same.
kayharley Posted June 4, 2006 Posted June 4, 2006 Congratulations on your new puppy. What a doll! Enjoy
we-love-izzy Posted June 4, 2006 Author Posted June 4, 2006 Thanks everyone! I did try moistening her food, then this morning I made it even wetter and she seemed to like it some better.. She'll eat a piece or two and then it seems like she just has better things on her mind. Unless I sit right beside her bowl and give her piece by piece by hand. So atleast she's getting some in her. Yes, the Eukanuba is what she was getting. Oh and the bitter apple spray works great! She does not like that taste at all! Hubby was playing PS2 hockey last night and the cord was soo tempting to izzy, but one spray of the bitter apple and she left it alone. Maybe I can get some brighter pictures of her today.. that is,if it will quit raining long enough . kasey
Lesley Posted June 4, 2006 Posted June 4, 2006 Welcome Izzy - let the fun begin !! She is so cute - we love puppies
grillywarren Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 Please send her to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hee hee She is gorgeous!!!!!
alaskpat Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 I used to work in a shop that sold pet supplies as well as food and gear for working dogs. Although Eukanuba is one fo the best foods some dogs just don't like it. Try a small bag of another brand. I found the Canine Caviar works well for picky dogs. I fed my other dogs Canine Caviar for years and will switch my new Cairns to it once they adjust to their new home. You could also try Iams, not as good as Eukanuba but still a good brand and made by the same company. By the way my new Cairns will be arriving Wednesday, can't wait, lol.
alaskpat Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 One other trick is to sprinkle a little Garlic Powder on the dry food, please NO Garlic Salt. Dogs love garlic and the smell of the powder may get their interest.
GIDGETSMOM Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 What a Cutie-Pie! Can't wait to hear all of your funny stories. There's nothin' in this world better than puppy breath!!!
we-love-izzy Posted June 6, 2006 Author Posted June 6, 2006 Thanks everyone for your help and replies! Izzy had her checkup yesterday at the vet's and she's good to go now. Of course everyone at the office was in love with her at first sight, hehehe. One girl, (vet's assistant) said she put herself on Izzy's chart just so she could play with her. Izzy wasn't too impressed though, she slept through most of it. Another funny thing, I couldn't believe my eyes.. Hubby and I were driving around his father's pond this weekend and across the dirt road in the middle of nowhere, pranced a full grown Cairn.. I had Izzy with me. You don't see these dogs(Cairns) around here at all! A little further we drove and there were the owners and two more! Of course we had to stop and Izzy got sniffed and we met some really great Cairn lovers who we hope to see again. Hubby's Dad gives them permission to walk the pond and let the dogs off leashes, not many places here you can do that. They were really great dogs! and the lady has offered her babysitting service if we ever need to leave Izzy . alaskpat, how many are you getting? i know you must be so excited! kasey
alaskpat Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 We have two coming, brother and sister born April 12. They fly tomorrow morning. Taking the rest of the week off just to be with them. I'm sure they will be a handful but we have a big back yard for them to play. Will have to watch them in the winter, don't want to lose them in the snow lol.
