I completely lost my mind today!

I drove an hour and a half to see a female cairn terrier that was being put up for adoption at Petco. Not only did I go look at her, I filled out the application. I was approved and am now proud to announce that I am a three cairn household! :w00t:

Her name is Chloe, she's five years old and looks just like what I imagine Zoe would've looked like had she lived. She's absolutely adorable! She's about 13 lbs and is a lovely red wheaten. The only thing wrong with her is that her pancreas doesn't work properly and so she requires an enzyme powder twice a day with her food.

Tucker, Scruffy, and Rocky took an immediate liking to her. There have been no scuffles, no arguments, no problems at all. She even likes cats! I can't believe that anyone would willingly give this little girl up, but it's my gain. Dh has my camera, so I don't have a pic to post yet, but it will be coming soon. I just had to let y'all know about our new addition!

Oh Thela, I'm so excited for you! I'm so happy that you adopted her and that she was accepted by the others. I know I couldn't bring an older female in w/ Kiara. She thinks she's alpha here, even over the males. :D My dh says I'm at my limit here w/ 5 dogs, but I know my heart has room for more. I'm just happy to at least have my 3 Cairns and I know you will be too.

Thela,

Congratulations! I can't wait to see her pic. She sounds lovely!

Another 3 cairn household! Do you think it is a spell they

put us under while we sleep? I can see them now....whispering in

our ears as we sleep.....we need another cairn....we need another cairn....

Best wishes with your new baby!

Congrats Thela!

I had a female German Shep who was also on Viokase becasuer her Panceas stopped working. She lived to be 14- which for a German Shep is a good age. Her Panceas stopped working around 1.5 to 2 years of age, so she functioned fine and had a long live without it. Infact when I had her spade, I asked the Dr. to take a look at her Panceas and see what it looked like since he was in there anyway- It wasn't there! she had re-absorbed it!

Good luck! & can't wait to see photos!

Mystics, that's absolutely fascinating!

We had a good night. About 9:30 she started walking through the house and settled on my son's bed. I decided to leave her, and she slept there all night.

She understands the words "potty" and "outside" and has let me know twice now when she needs to go.

Her personality is coming out now. She's a lovely dog. She's very vocal, too, which is hilarious because it brings it out in Scruffy. They just finished a barking/howling session in the livingroom which was so funny. "bark, bark, bark, aaaaaaaarrrrooooooooooooooh!" She also does that high-pitched screaming/singing that Scruffy does whenever I rub his muzzle or give Tucker too much attention.

I can't wait for my husband to see her!

Wheezie, Enzyme powder? Would she have Type 2 diabetes? If so, perhaps it can be cured.

If she has Type 1, please let me know more about the powder. Thanks. (My son's diabetic.)

Sally, I am not exactly sure of the name of her condition as I haven't gotten her vet records yet. They're sending them to me tomorrow, hopefully. All I know is that her pancreas does not produce the enzyme to digest her food. Otherwise she seems perfectly healthy.

I am so thrilled for you! The only thing better than having 2 Cairns is having 3. Then of course having 4 would be the ultimate!

Enjoy and post pics when you get a free minute.

How wonderful for you and her. The personality of adopted pups is the best part. Watching it grow a bit everyday. Good luck, post pics.

I am always so touched by those of you who have adopted (and there are so many of you). Congratulations to you for bringing hope to another little cairn life. She is so blessed to have you all!

You wanted pics, you got 'em! I shot these yesterday. You can see that the groomer clippered around her eyes trying to give her a Yorkie cut. This seems to make her appear very squinty outside. She probably had an abundance of hair over her forehead and eyes and is getting used to the sunlight. She let me groom her a little around the face and head yesterday. I was able to get rid of most of the really long hair on top and some of the long hair around her cheeks giving her more of a Cairn look.

And then here she is with the boys after a long walk:

Now that's a cute doggie picture! They do seem to get along!

I am still working on DH to consider a second cairn, now that Allie is nearly 9 and a "little" calmer. I can use all of these pix to convince him it is the right move.

Enjoy your three! Looks like so much fun...

Thanks for the pictures! They look happy and content after their walk. Question: what method do you use when taking all three on a walk? I have a hard enough time with 2, so I'm curious how it works with 3.

Shoe, so far we're using the "Andrew and Curtis! You have to help me walk the dogs!" method!

Once I feel that they are truly used to eachother, and see which pup she'd be best paired with, I'll use a coupler. It'll most likely be Tucker because Scruffy doesn't like to be coupled at all. He likes to walk at his own pace.

It's actually quite hilarious to see us walking our pack. Yesterday it was me, dh, and the boys walking Tucker, Scruffy, Chloe and Rocky. There's a neighborhood dog named Trixie who likes to join us, too. I'm a good neighbor, though, and always bring my "poopie bag" with me.
