CAIRNOODLE?

I was just having some fun last night and going to look at the lastest pups on the purebred dog profiles and got quite a shock when I scrolled down to Cairns, to find a Cairnoodle listed.

http://www.puppydogweb.com/profiles.htm

So, I googled Cairnoodle only to find websites that are selling them!:mad:

Here's a picture of two pups. To me, there's something missing in these pup's eyes. They just don't seem to have that "Cairn spark".

Here's an adult:

20040902145659_192341_4.jpg

The website went on to say:

"Cairnoodle size will be approx 10" at the shoulder

and weigh 9-12lbs. Coats are wavy, soft and

nonshed. Many of our Cairn moms are champion sired, and Fritz,

our apricot mini poodle is also champion sired.

We have a one year health guarantee.

Our Pups Are Priced At $800.00

Please visit our webpage for more information and pictures!"

You can google to find the webpage. I don't know how others feel, but I don't want to see Cairns mixed w/ other breeds! :soap: Cairns are a breed all their own and it needs to be kept that way!!!! If one is to breed a Cairn, it should be to improve the line, not destroy it!!!!!!

I'm curious to what their temperment is, are they playful as a cairn or yappy like poodles? I do think their cute though, sorry. I havent met a puppy yet that I dont fall in love with though!

once again, man made takes over nature.....too bad.

I agree w/ you Terry, I too am a sucker for puppies. I just hate seeing all of these new breeds being created for a profit. Here's a little more info:

I have to say that I find this so sad and irresponsible. $800 for a mutt? There was no point other than to make money, b/c cairns are ALREADY nonshed. Making the coat soft, fluffy and non-shed defeats the whole purpose of the coat (to be weather-proof). And I find the temperment of poodles to be about the most annoying of any dog, so how could it improve the temperment? Sorry, I just hate to see this kind of thing. If people want mixed breeds, they should go to a shelter and save one from being euthanized, instead of paying an outrageous amount of money for something that only encourages more irresponsible breeding.

Well said!!! I, too, find it totally irresponsible on the breeder's part to cross-breed and then expect to get the high figures moneywise for a... ummm..... well a mutt, cute though they may be. Many years ago I had a poodle and they are one of the most annoying dogs I've ever had the displeasure to own. Keep the Cairn blood line clean and not dirty it up with other breeds! Ugh!!!

I am new to the pure bred dog world, but I have to agree with you! The only purpose for this is money and profit! Here's another nasty cross breed

All creatures great and small, the Lord God, He made them all!

This is just infuriating! Lord knows what health issues these cross-breeds will have and most of the them will end up in shelters and rescue groups. Then nice folks like us will adopt them and take care them and straighten out all the issues they have.

There are too many unwanted dogs now. This is just another set of puppy mills out to make a fast buck at the expense of the dogs! We need to put these pet shops out of business and that will stop the so-called breeders and mills. These places sell the dogs to the pet shops for next to nothing, $50-$100, then the pet shops charge hundreds for the same dog. It's all for profit. They do not care at all about the dogs or protecting a specific breed.

I also don't understand the combinations. If you want a poodle, get a poodle. If you want a Cairn, get a Cairn. Why would anyone want a mix of these two breeds? They have nothing in common!

As the Mom of two rescue Cairns, thanks for letting me vent!

Hey guys! Some of my best friends have poodles! And though I wouldn't own one, being completely in love with and devoted to cairns, they love their dogs and find them just as irresistible as I find mine.

Besides, in a barking/yipping contest, Allie would at least tie a poodle...

I don't have any more problem with a responsible poodle owner and breeder than with a cairn owner and breeder. I DO have problems with people who cross-breed dogs without considering possible genetic concerns that can be costly, and who just use the crosses to make a lot of bucks.

I would bet that most of the good cairn owner/breeder/showfolks out there aren't even breaking even selling their dogs. How could they? But thank goodness they do because that's how I got my Allie.

Let's give responsible dog owners, whatever their breed, a break.

I'm not sure which is more foolish, crossing breeds or paying $800 for a mix-breed. I've had several mix-breed dogs in my life, nice animals all. But I never paid outrageous money and called it a pure bred dog.

Though I'm new to this forum, I have a serious opinion. It is because there is a market for these crazy mixed breeds, and the puppy mills are thriving.

A quick story to share. I have wanted a Cairn for years now, but being a bit naive in the pure bred industry, I found one through an on-line ad through our local newspaper. I talked with the women at length on several different occasions. However, when I picked up my puppy, she didn't have the parents as implied, but did have the AKC papers. Our puppy, Mia, was beautiful but younger than represented. We got Mia home, and within 24 hours were at the vet, where we found out she had advanced Parvo. The vet gave her a 25% chance of survival at a huge expense. We immediately contacted this so called "breeder", who immediately gave us our money back, and took that sick puppy back into a home, where it turns out she had 20+ puppies. All pure bred AKC from various states across the country.

I was sick! I reported her to the local humane society, and haven't seen her phone number in the ads in some time.

These people don't care about the dogs, and they break hearts.

Fortunately, I found a reputible breeder in my state. Actually referred by this web page, and I'm getting my new baby in June.

Thanks for letting me share my horror story.

Ang.

:(Ok, I'm a sucker for cute puppies, and those are really cute little guys. Unfortunately, there is a certain "Sparkle" lacking in the eyes.

That said, I am NOT in favor of the "Designer Dog" craze that seems to be going on nationwide. Mixed breed puppies used to be called "Mutts" or "Mongrels" and were usually discouraged and when they did occur, were given away. I don't see how the greedy people ( Calling them "Breeders" is an insult to honest breeders) who breed these mutts have the nerve to charge a Premium price for a mixed breed dog.

I do have to admit that I'm curious what a "Cairn/Westie" mix would be. Since they are very similar except for color and the fact that a "Westie" tends to be a little larger, it could be an interesting mix.

I'm NOT advocating that anyone try it. I guess I'm curious because Cairns are not real common in my area, but there is a Westie on nearly every block of our nightly walking route. My dog is neutered, so it ain't gonna happen here.

Hearing about this always makes me sad. I think of the poor dogs who are in shelters now that need a good home, and become angry when I find out how much money this makes for those that are in it for the profit...and that's the only reason why they do this.

I would say ditto to most of the posts sent re: opinion of cross - cairn. As a purebreed advocate - how do we promote the cairn terrier pure breed? Brad is there an advocate group? happy for PM or post on the subject.

I too find this mixing of breeds for profit sickening  Here in Australia they have been pushed by television programs as being great new breeds, a way to get the best out of two breeds and such rubbish. There are always plenty for sale in pet shops for outrages prices. I think if someone wants a mixed breed there are plenty looking for homes in the dog refuges.
