Luau party and "they're coming

Okay...here's the deal I need help with.

I'm having a Hawaiian theme luau party for my mom's 80th birthday (pray for sun, pray for sun)

My mother was never an animal lover but she really adores my crew so they are going to be a part of the festivities. She has so much fun trying to figure out which dog is Elliott and which is Maddy.

Here they are for their costumes "first fitting"....only picture I could get because they were totally out of control....grabbing at each others raffia skirts, pulling bra off Winnie and acting like dogs!

Although the majority of our guests will be family, some are elderly and I'm really dreading the initial encounter. Once my "beasts" check out everyone, it's a piece of cake but the initial encounter????

I'm thinking of keeping them in their room until everyone has arrived then giving my guests the "heads up/feet up" and let the hounds loose.

Kay what if you teather them to something while out in the yard, just out of reach of everyone until they are calm, then you can release them once they are use to the hub-bub. Mine seem to do good if they cant get a hold of anyone right away.

Unlike at the vet today......anon.gif

Mine act the same way, so I know how you feel. Having everyone sitting when you introduce them is a great idea!

Can you post the picture again? It's too small for my eyes to see...thanks!

Unfortunately I cannot see your picture but I am sure they are adorable!

I did the same party last summer for my Aunt's 80th. It was the hottest day of the summer! I made sure the dogs were well exercised that morning. The guests were all gathered in the driveway to greet Auntie and I had the dogs on their leashes being held by my cousins. So if you have a couple of strong, responsible people on hand they can tend to the dogs. We found being outside lessened the frantic greeting. If they got restless while waiting we walked them around the yard. Having everyone enter the house together prevented the crush to meet and greet when the doorbell rang! After the initial excitement they were content to mull around under the table.

Emma wore a pretty pink lei to match mine and Eric and my DH wore similar Hawaiian shirts.

Best of luck and have a wonderful time!

When we have people over, I find it easiest to put my Cairns in the backyard w/ my dd while people arrive. Once the doorbell stops ringing, I usually put my three in my back sunroom. Abbey has been known to get crated when she continues to bark. Sometimes I also make sure my three have had a good run and I let them greet my company before putting them to bed.

Would you please enlarge that picture? :)

That's strange you can't see the picture because I had great difficulty resizing it...ended up posting it in it's larger state. Hmmmmm?

How cute is that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made.

OMG, how ADORABLE!! I love those shirts. Great idea!! I don't have any good ideas on how to slowly introduce the pups. I am probably a rude pup owner because I let mine go and get it out of his system (obviously within reason). It's got to be harder with your three. They are too cute!!!!

No, I did not make the bra. Poor Winnie was selected to wear that costume only because it fit her the best. Maddy and Elliott are having identical outfits....I'm wondering which dog loses their grass skirt first.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My mother-in-law would SIMPLY DIE if Darcy had an outfit like that!!!!!!!! My husband was born and raised in Hawaii and she loves EVERYTHING Hawiian!

Sounds like a wonder themed party... and I would agree with you about keeping them in their room until everone is there. That way all of the elderly people you're concerned about can be seated or elsewhere when you "unleash the hounds". HAVE FUN! And please post more pics!

That is the funniest thing I have ever seen! I'm sure Elliott has been plotting his revenge for making him wear a grass SKIRT! We're having a big party next weekend to celebrate my DDs graduation, but my 2 have to go across the street to my sister's house to hang out because they would be so annoying. How fun that yours are invited to the party!

Thanks for enlarging the picture...they are just too sweet!

I agree with the folks that suggest you sequester everyone somewhere safe until the doorbell stops ringing. Give everyone a chance to calm down.

Have a fun luau! :D

Those costumes are a riot!!

Once everyone sees them they will be a big hit! Keeping them in a room first is a good idea, if not to avoid chaos, but for the surprise element!

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

It was really hard finding 3 of them and I can't remember the companies I did business with.

The first one I ordered was a size small but it only fit Madison. When I tried to order 2 more I was told the manufacturer had stopped making them.

I had to do some major surfing and luckily I was able to get 2 more in a medium....one Tiki girl and one Tiki boy. Poor Madison gets to wear the boy costume but at least she won't have to worry about anyone pulling her bra off.
