Eliz222 Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 When Scout was a puppy, she was all black. When she was 2 years old she was a grey brindle. She still has some black and grey in her coat, but underneath her hair is red hair. Will this be her color now" Will she turn into a red brindle? Scout's color now Here is what she looked like when Finch was a puppy...about 2 years ago. She was a grey brindle, but when the lighting was just right, the red popped out. Scout 2 years ago She looked really red here, but only when the light was "right". Now Scout and Finch are hard to tell apart.....not me, of course, but others can't tell them apart now. Do you think Scout will become a red brindle? Finch was a red brindle and is STILL the same color. I know Cairns change colors...which I think is really neat...but just curious. Thanks!
Tracy A. Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 It will be interesting to see what others say- I looked through your photos and Mett & Bratt have very simular coloring. I've always wondered if undercoat color has any indication of the future... Loved your photos! Your girls are cuties. Tracy, Amos, Walter, Brattwrust & Mettwurst a.k.a The Gremlins
mrskti Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Dori was all black when we got her, now she's grey and black with red muzzle. Dori was all wheaton, now she has a darker grey mixed in with Red highlights. When i got them, i specifically went for a wheaton, I had tunnel vision. If I were to get another one now, I could'nt care less what color it was, seeing all the different ones here has made me just love them all. I cant stand seeing puppy faces, god they are so cute...makes me want more....and you can see what a vicious cycle that would be!!! Terry, mom of Dori and Ellie Mae
toomanypaws Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Kiara also started out all black, but by 8 wks had red highlights. She turned more red during the first year. Then she seemed to start turning black again. She then started to get some cream in her, but now at almost 5 yrs she's getting more red again. I just zoomed in on her coat tonight to show you the red coming out. I love having a Brindle! Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
Teri9672 Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 I have decided that Teona's color is old rotten wooden fence I really don't care what color the girls turn out as long as they look different.
mrskti Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 thats funny teri....LOL Terry, mom of Dori and Ellie Mae
Darcy's Mom Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 A good description of her color especially when she's standing next to the fence, looking like she's into trouble chewing on that planter. But maybe a charcoal grey might work? You don't want to refer to your baby's color as old rotton wood, do you? Just kidding.
Eliz222 Posted April 27, 2006 Author Posted April 27, 2006 Teona does look just like the fence...lol! Does anyone know if Cairns undercoat will be their next color? Or will it remain just their undercoat...just curious! Beth, Kiara's coat looks just like Scout's did about a year ago. She now has alot of red hair on top, but her undercoat is really, really red!
bradl Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 As near as I can tell, undercoat is truly a whole different coat. My nearly black Haggis still has a a fair amount of red undercoat. He was a quite red brindle as a young'un. CAIRNTALK: Questions? Need help? → Support Forum Please do not use PMs for tech support CRCTC: Columbia River Cairn Terrier Club | 2025 Calendar
toomanypaws Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 I have decided that Teona's color is old rotten wooden fence Teri, You crack me up! Hannah has some of the same coloring as Teona. Her face is still dark, but her sides are getting lighter. Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
Eliz222 Posted April 28, 2006 Author Posted April 28, 2006 I started to strip Scout yesterday and I did a little more today...boy does her hair come out fast! It looks like the red will be her next color. I just took this pic tonight. I'll try to take another one using daylight....the flash doesn't always show true color.
mrskti Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 These dogs are always a surprise, down to the fur!!!! gotta love em' BTW Brad, I dont know which dog of yours is your avatar, but it's just cute as can be...love that face and coloring. Terry, mom of Dori and Ellie Mae
Scully'sMom Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 All your pups are just gorgeous!!! I have decided that Teona's color is old rotten wooden fence LOL! Can you see if you wanted that color in some paint???? You could carry Teona into Home Depot and say "Match THIS would ya?"
tena Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 Sophie's undercoat is a silver/grey. When I first brought her home she was almost white with touches of grey. After some serious grooming...she is a blond with reddish tints. Sophie
