Toto Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 I'm getting my puppy, "bear", saturday and have a crate, smaller soft sided one for travel, bowls, and few toys. What else do I need? ( be specific it you want 'cause I have no idea )
mrskti Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 you might want some puppy piddle pads, and some baby wipes in case he makes a mess and some poop bags. As we were driving away with our pups, the guys said, "oh, i wormed them a half hour ago" wholly crap (no pun int.) within a mile, we smelled this horrid smell....stop the car, pull them both out, clean out the crate, throw away the bedding, mop up, clean them up and start again. Yuk! So take paper towels too!!! and a garbage bag. Terry, mom of Dori and Ellie Mae
oregoncoast71 Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Dont' forget the paper towels and enzyme cleaner (Nature's Miracle) to clean up messes. There is no faith which has never yet been broken except that of a truly faithful dog. -- Konard Lorenz
Toto Posted April 24, 2006 Author Posted April 24, 2006 oh, I forgot, I do have "petzyme" and a training book
rileysmum Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 How exciting, I remember picking up Rebel I couldn't sleep the night before. Have you got a long drive home? we picked up Reb. from the airport so it was a big day for him, mabey some water and a bowl, collar, lead, I had my kids with me so they held him on a towel. Have fun.
toomanypaws Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Let the fun begin! As I've said before, I loved preparing for the arrival of a puppy. I buy some light-weight baby blankets and water resistant pads (burp pads) for the crate. I also buy a new fleece pet toy. Besides the crate, I found those giant plastic buckets are great to keep the pup in to carry around w/ you during the day when he/she's sleeping. Being I had other dogs, I also had a port-a-crib for the new pup until she was big enough to be left w/ the others. Oh, and don't forget to charge those batteries for you digital or get film for you camera. One can never take enough pictures of a puppy. We here at Cairn Forum are crazy for pictures, so please share. <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/maiwag/terriersiggy.jpg" border="0" class="linked-sig-image" /> Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
kcsdogs Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 Everyone has such great ideas, all I want to say is that I am soo happy for you and your new baby congratualtions!
Kathryn Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 Nothing to add to the list (maybe just more toys, and then more toys!), but I am so excited for you. There is nothing as wonderful as a new cairn puppy. Here's to "Bear."
Tracy A. Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 We installed two baby gates when we got Mett & Bratt to let them have the kitchen as there area when they were little. Only after reading on the forum did I find out about Ex-Pens.... I love my Ex-Pen and I wish that i'd had one when I first got Mett & Bratt. I bought my on ebay for like 10 buck, but paid 30 in shipping.... 40 is a great deal for a 4' high ex-pen! Oh Puppy breath.......... Congratulations! brin145 Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 I know you may already have planned for food. Don't forget treats for potty training. Both of mine have done better with that incentive. Also, maybe a little chew type toy...
Eliz222 Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 It's almost time......boy does time fly! I can't wait to see your new puppy!!! The only thing I can add to all this wonderful advice is to bring a soft stuffed toy with you. Rub the toy on the mom and dad (if possible) so that their scent is on the stuffed animal. I think this kept Finch calm when we brought her home. She smelled her mom and dad in her new home.
bradl Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 Bitter Apple spray. We usually pull up almost all lamp cords when we have a puppy around and spray any cords we can't move out of the way. Some dogs apparently eat and drink bitter apple like it was candy, but we've had good success with it. CAIRNTALK: Questions? CathyAnn Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 Lots and lots of chew toys! I believe that having them available helped save our shoes, woodwork, chair legs, on and on. Bully sticks are one of Piper's favorites..... Can't wait to see him!! Cathy Cathy and Piper
