What a Cairn is Thinking

I just read this on another forum site. There are 3 answers a Cairn Terrier has when you give him a command:

1. "No."

2. "I can't hear you!"

3. "Why? What's in it for me?"

Boy, that is Packy all the way! You can almost hear him saying that stuff! At obedience class tonight, he was supposed to be recalled from a sit/stay, but he had to go right by a tennis ball and a treat. Not tonight! I could just hear him saying, "I can't hear you!" as he picked up the ball and headed for the treat. The little rat!

Sophie is pretty much "what's in it for me"....you can almost count on it.

It's a Cairn thing. My three do obey, but there are times when I give a command and they have to stop and think about it first. Kind of like, "I don't want to hear you, so I'm pretending not to hear you because I'm having too much fun." Or, "I do hear you, and know what you what me to do , but being it's not what I want to do, I have to think about it first and then decide whether to obey."

Mine are like that to a point

I would say

1. I'm busy

2. I will do it now and make her happy, but I decide when to do it she just has to learn that I (Sugar the cute one or Rebel the smart one) am in charge

3. Why would I want to do that?

Allie always stops and looks up as though to see whether there might be a treat in it for her. If a vusal cue or the word "Treat" yelled don't follow, she'll just go on her way.

My hubby for the longest time thought that Mett didn't know his name or any commands..... LOL

Mine seem to have that "shoot first and ask questions later" attitude!

Sometimes I think I am looking at a blank slate when I talk to them, but I'm sure they feel the same way about me too!!!

LOL "Didn't I do that LAST week" reminds me of Savannah!! I can actually see her thinking that sometimes.

Sometimes she also gets a look that says, "Are you talking to me??"
