kjwarnold Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 I just read this on another forum site. There are 3 answers a Cairn Terrier has when you give him a command: 1. "No." 2. "I can't hear you!" 3. "Why? What's in it for me?" Boy, that is Packy all the way! You can almost hear him saying that stuff! At obedience class tonight, he was supposed to be recalled from a sit/stay, but he had to go right by a tennis ball and a treat. Not tonight! I could just hear him saying, "I can't hear you!" as he picked up the ball and headed for the treat. The little rat! Jandy and my Cairns, Kirby & Phinney
tena Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 Sophie is pretty much "what's in it for me"....you can almost count on it. Sophie
toomanypaws Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 It's a Cairn thing. My three do obey, but there are times when I give a command and they have to stop and think about it first. Kind of like, "I don't want to hear you, so I'm pretending not to hear you because I'm having too much fun." Or, "I do hear you, and know what you what me to do , but being it's not what I want to do, I have to think about it first and then decide whether to obey." <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/maiwag/terriersiggy.jpg" border="0" class="linked-sig-image" /> Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
hallswel Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 Mine are like that to a point I would say 1. I'm busy 2. I will do it now and make her happy, but I decide when to do it she just has to learn that I (Sugar the cute one or Rebel the smart one) am in charge 3. Why would I want to do that? Liz Rebel, Hammurabi, Sugar, Dirty Harry, Paint, Duncan and Saffron
Kathryn Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 Allie always stops and looks up as though to see whether there might be a treat in it for her. If a vusal cue or the word "Treat" yelled don't follow, she'll just go on her way.
kayharley Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 There are 3 answers a Cairn Terrier has when you give him a command: And Elliott's answer is "MAKE ME!"
Tracy A. Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 LOL My hubby for the longest time thought that Mett didn't know his name or any commands..... Cairns2 Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 Do Cairns think? Mine seem to have that "shoot first and ask questions later" attitude! Sometimes I think I am looking at a blank slate when I talk to them, but I'm sure they feel the same way about me too!!!
mrseggcup Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 WOOF! Eli, here! You want me to WHAT????? Let me think about it. Whatever! Been there, done that. You are kidding, right? Didn't I do that LAST week? Run that by me again. Sorry. No comprende. I would, but I am booked for the afternoon. Sure, as soon as I finish chomping this thing. If I do it, do I get a treat?? I would, but I don't feel like it. I don't know when I will feel like it. Why???? And on and on! Woof! Eli

savannahsmom35 Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 LOL "Didn't I do that LAST week" reminds me of Savannah!! I can actually see her thinking that sometimes. Sometimes she also gets a look that says, "Are you talking to me??" We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all.
