kayharley Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 I've been on vacation all week and we've had some wonderful weather...Why have Elliott and Madison been acting like total idiots? I love them with all my heart but today I lost my patience and had a verbal temper tantrum after their non-stop barking sessions. I could not go anywhere near the hose or watering can, plant in our veggie patch, scoop mulch, clean birdbath or even sit in my adirondack chair and browse through gardening magazines without them barking like there's no tomorrow! So they sat in their crates in the house for 1/2 hour while I enjoyed peace and quiet outside. I think my neighbors all smiled at me from a distance once they saw the devils were quiet.....BUT, I felt so guilty enjoying the sunshine without them that I had to let the demons loose again. I'm doomed...
toomanypaws Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 It's ok to have some quiet time by yourself. I was so exhausted today after teaching, I threw the Cairns a baby carrot and went and took a nap. Thank goodness they were all quiet. Mine do fine outside w/ me if I'm just gardening. Kiara can be a pest wanting me to toss her toy. Forget mowing the lawn. Kiara and Abbey will attack the lawnmower as if they think they can silence it. My real problem w/ my three, especially yapping Abbey, is when my dh is out of town. We live on a cul-de-sac and my dogs think they own it. My Lab starts them all off. I guess he's waiting for his "daddy", anticipating every vehicle to be his. I had to roll a fresh newspaper due to banging the old one on the counter to quiet them. <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/maiwag/terriersiggy.jpg" border="0" class="linked-sig-image" /> Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
Scully'sMom Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 I feel your pain sister!!! I was attempting to wash one of the vehicles while Scully was outside and there was constant barking because I wasn't spraying Scully with the water or let her chase it. In the meantime, the German Shepherd next door is sitting nice as could be outside, not a peep out of her. It's SO embarassing sometimes. This is Scully after I put her inside when I couldn't take it anymore...
Lisad Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 I hear you too!! I keep threatening to "remove his voice box" but he doesn't believe me and just barks and barks away. Scully's Mom - What excellent shots of Scully. She is beaitiful. Nice grooming job too!!
Kramersmom Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Scullysmom, Scully is too cute! Love the photos. I cant get over how Kramer and Sculky look alike! Eliz222 Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Boy, can I relate too! today was a beautiful day and I loved being outside with Scout and Finch....but it wears me out! Scout just wants to bark, and Finch wants play frisbee or "catch" the water from the hose! Here is what Finch wants to do as much as fetching the frisbee: Finch with the hose
Abby's Dad Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Great video Shoe! Thanks for sharing. Abby would not have gotten anywhere near that water - she even hates the sprinkler.
Tracy A. Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Oh can I relate! to everyone! Here comes my rant Our neighboor across the street sold his extra lot last year, and a house was built directly across the street from us. The new idiot neighboors moved in a few weeks ago. They are letting their dogs run loose.......... The screen in the front door is now destroyed, and chewed at the corners (don't worry everyone, we have glass loovers slats on this screen door only 3" between the glass sections) So now I need to figure out how to make the bottom 8"'s plexi glass and the rest screen.... I am really pissed that I can't take the boys out in the front yard anymore- and last night at 10:30pm they had their garage door open, 1 child running around yelling, and a tool of some kind going I had to close every window in the house because Mett & Bratt kept barking (we were in bed, they were in their Crate for the night) If I call the police or township, they'll know who complained.... I am so upset that I didn't buy the lot when it went on the market, because now I can't even walk my leashed dogs in my half acre front yard! (I think i'll let Mett & Brat start pooping in their front yard- and not pick it up ) Tracy, Amos, Walter, Brattwrust & Mettwurst a.k.a The Gremlins
savannahsmom35 Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 I had one of those days a few weeks ago. I had the worst headache when I came home from work so I let Savannah in the backyard and went to lay down. She starting barking at some unknown evil. I tried to get her to come inside, no luck. I tried to catch her to MAKE her come inside, no luck. By the time my DH got home, I was laying on the bed crying. I heard him outside telling Savannah, "You are making Mommy cry now knock it off and come inside". LOL! It is funny now but it sure wasn't funny then. She finally came in and quieted down. There have been several times that I have threatened to debark her or put her on e-bay if she didn't shut up (joking of course). She knows she isn't going anywhere so she continues to bark like a mad woman. We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made. -M. Acklam Savannah's Dogster Page
kayharley Posted April 20, 2006 Author Posted April 20, 2006 I am really pissed that I can't take the boys out in the front yard anymore- and last night at 10:30pm they had their garage door open, 1 child running around yelling, and a tool of some kind going I had to close every window in the house because Mett & Bratt kept barking (we were in bed, they were in their Crate for the night) If I call the police or township, they'll know who complained.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That is awful, Mysticol8. Do you think talking with your new neighbors would help? Although doubtful, they may not know just how loud and disruptive they are being. Also, there are roaming and leash laws in many cities/states. You have rights. How about your other neighbors? I'm sure they're not happy either. Yesterday in the midst of my temper tantrum, my next door neighbor was walking to his garage and commented on Elliott and Maddy's barking saying "Well, they are good watch dogs." And I replied, "No, today they're being as#h*l@s. At least I TRY and quiet my dogs down...many tie their dogs outside for hours at a time and tune out their barking. That gets my goat.
Teri9672 Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 I feel your pain When I clean house I have to toss the girls outside. They try to eat the vacuum cleaner and it drives me crazy. Poor Tabitha will just sit at the door and scratch because she wants back in. I too have those days when I just can't deal with them. I usually load up a kong and I go into the bedroom and close the door.
Kathryn Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 That photo of Scully just brightened my day! How could you not want that smiling dog to come out and play with you? And Finch! What a dog for a fire station! Could become a mascot. I always come to this site for the joy of looking at the dogs! Kathryn
