I think Westies because they are so close to Cairns.

If I could choose a big dog, it would be a Vizsla or an Airedale.

Cairns are my favorite small dog and as far as large dogs, LABS! I will always have one (or two) of each.

My beloved choc. lab, Mousse has already been gone 4 yrs. This is his website from 2 yrs ago. Kiara loved Mousse, as he did her.

Golden Retriever! We recently added a GR puppy to our family. He is 9 weeks old and named Oliver. Bear, the Cairn, is 9 months old. The two get along great. Bear finally has a playmate that will play tug-of-war with him. As for Golder Retrievers, my DH and I have had GRs all our married life together....27 yrs. Oliver is our fourth. The Cairn Terrier is actually a new love for me.

MAKE it a GREAT day!!! :D

Our "second dog" Walt (owned by a good friend, but stays with us whenever she travels, which is often) is a border collie. He LIVES to obey us - It's "ask me to do something, ma" all the time! So Border collies are definitely my second favorite, and a real difference from a cairn.

But if I had the room and the money I would probably get an Irish wolfhound.

Eli's Alpha B, here (for a change!) His predecessor was a beautiful Airedale terrier named Lucy. She was beautifully bred and I took her to big-time obedience and worked very hard. She was smart, sweet, funny, protective, gentle, and I loved her to pieces. I had 14 wonderful years with her and had to put her down one year ago tomorrow.

Now Eli is here and he has filled my heart. Despite what he posts, he is coming along just fine.

Terriers rock!

This is a very hard question to ask because I love most all dogs! I will have to answer with two.....any mixed breed from the pound (adult dogs are the best) and Golden R.

German Shepherd's hold a special place in my heart, if they only didn't shed so much! Next I'd have to say a Bloodhound, they are so layed back! But both are such good working dogs!

The smartest and most lovable dog we've had the opportunity to own was an English Springer Spaniel. You could ask her to get you anything and she would go and get it for you. You only had to say something once and she obeyed without hesitation. I never had to worry about her chewing furniture, shoes, or anything that wasn't in her toy box.

OK, so now I'm a Cairn owner and know what a real dog is like....

Growing up we had up to 4 dogs - a golden retriever, a maltese, jack russell terrier and a miniature pinscher. I really connected with the JRT, he was a great guard dog and very loyal (like cairns!). He passed away when I was in high school. Till now I think of him....

Smooth Collie I love the contrasting personality that they have to the Cairn. You get the best of both worlds. The two breeds compliment each other really well. Love their trainability and versatility and their gentleness.

I never have to worry about the Collies ever intentionally hurting Murph. If Murph takes a toy away from the them, the most they'll do is stand there barking at him to give it back. If Murph is laying where Oz needs to jump off the bed, Oz'll bark until I move Murph for him, but he won't jump down and risk hurting Murph. If Murph or Gull are gonna get sick, Oz will come and get me and whack me with his paw, until I go see what's up.

Murph thinks they're pretty okay too, although he says he wouldn't mind a Golden Retriever either. :)

A Newfoundland, that was my first dog. I love Cairns because they are a big dog in a smaller, more manageable body!

My parents have a dachshund and he is a great little dog. He's the third one they've had.
