toomanypaws
Just what we need, another pet! Here's Kiara, Abbey, and Hannah meeting our newest addition. A few days later, Kiara (front left) is not too sure about this new "pet". Abbey and Hannah are both memorized by the new baby, while Kiara remains unsure. This is Bogart, our 4 wk old baby Severe Macaw Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
tena
How cool, they really look interested. My cats would have the birdy as an snack . And Sophie is pretty brutal with toys that have feathers...bird would not be a good addition to my household. Sophie
CathyAnn
Piper would have been inside that cage in no time flat with feathers flyin'!! He loves to chase birds in the yard and has already caught several!! So, will you teach Bogart to talk? Betcha "woof, woof" will be the first word!! Lisad
Beth, I love your beautiful little bird. Now, Bogart is gonna live a long, long time correct? I have a sister-in-law who had to put her bird in her will to make sure he was going to be taken care of in the event that she died before he did. Wow!! He looks very, very sweet!! The more the merrier!
hallswel
Good luck beautiful parrot...I have a Sun Conure and when he is out the dogs must be outside. They can't stand it when he is riding on my shoulder! He also throws bird seed at them. Sugar eats it. Guest Guest
They look like they are very interested in this new "creature" Beautiful new addition. I always laugh - because Rusty also co habitats with "cubby" the hamster - and is easily viewed -although he hasn't ever bothered with him. It's nice to have another specie to watch - especially for the curious Cairn. Good luck with your new addition Lesley

chrissysb
We have a green cheek conure and leave the birdcage open all day -> Well... My husband walked by one day to Cody on his belly sniffing the bird and the bird on the floor with his wings and one claw out like the crane from Karate Kid. (I seriously have to get pics of this up. ) The bird hates the dog but Cody just wants to play and approaches the bird in a friendly manner. I want to make a saddle for the bird to ride the dog. tlwtheq
Great pictures. We, too, are a multiple-species household with an interesting mixture of predator and prey. Another testament to the flexibility and loyalty of Cairns is that if they sense a new other-species animal is family, they adjust quite well. The more the merrier! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks, I actually got him in a trade for an African Grey I had. The Grey wasn't tame and had been intended for breeding. Since I no longer breed birds and was having trouble selling the Grey, I decided to trade her for the baby Severe thinking I could sell the baby once he's weaned. My daughter has already made it clear that this bird is hers. We'll see when it comes to her helping clean his cage. Fortunately we have a sunroom for the bird to be in. I don't mean to sound too fussy, but I'm rather tired of birdseed and feathers in my house. My Cairns are easy upkeep next to birds. Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
Scully'sMom
Bogart is gorgeous! I can't believe how quiet your Cairns are around him just knowing how Scully hates birds.
toomanypaws
Bogart is gorgeous! I can't believe how quiet your Cairns are around him just knowing how Scully hates birds. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They are, for the most part, quiet around the bird. I'm guessing it's because they've been raised w/ so many animals here that's it's just part of their life. Most of the other pets, besides the Cairns, Lab, and cats, are kept in our sunroom. In the sunroom, we have 2 other birds, a hamster, and some lizards (bearded dragons & geckos). The Cairns have to pass through the sunroom when they play in the backyard. Only Kiara takes notice of the hamster or geckos. Abbey and Hannah could care less. It's funny how the other pet birds don't bother them, yet wild birds put them in "hunt" mode. Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
Anna_525
Very cute photos! How nice to see Bogart and his welcome committee! They are really so cute checking out each other! Not to scare you....I do hope they don't touch Bogart. I used to breed parakeets during my college years and I also owned a miniature pinscher....nothing bad happened for more than year then one day the min pin decided to have them as snack and even lined up two of the parakeets to show off to me (like trophies!). It was a sad day for me.....

I use to breed them years ago, cute little birds. Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
czymom
Congrats on your new baby. I too am a multi-species mom. I have Buddy and also an Amazon Parrot. She hates Buddy, but all he wants to do is get a good sniff, maybe a bite! Ha Ha. I will tell you this, we have been really good to watch Buddy with Precious. The other day she decided to jump off her play gym and usually Buddy is right on her before you can blink an eye, but this day, he just stood there and looked at her as if to say, "whatever!" I was sooooooooo proud. Just be careful, these rotten little Cairns' instinct is to eat those varmits up.
