Fiona Got Out

Well, this was NOT the way I had planned to begin my day! My fiance leaves for work very early ( he is a teacher and likes to be there super early) and he always leaves the garage door open. Fiona always comes in the bathroom with me while I shower and then while I get ready usually stays upstairs, but might meander downstairs for a bit. Well after a while I noticed she never came back upstairs after I was getting ready. So i walked downstairs and thought wow it feels cold down here...and then panic set in as I saw the door from the house to the garage was open! I knew he had not shut the outside garage and started calling "fiona, here girl" and lo and behold she comes running in from otuside! I just couldn;t believe she came when I called her. It was a miracle, I was getting ready to run down the street in my robe in 20 degree weather!

I snatched her up very quickly and was so proud of her to run right back inside...i think i am just lucky it was too early in the morning for the squirrels to be out or any kids at teh bus stop...then she would have been running down the street! :D

I read your post with chills going up and down my spine....every Cairn owners nightmare!

I'm so relieved but really shocked that she came when you called. Maybe she was a tad scared of the big, bad world out there, who knows but give her a big hug from me. What a good girl!

Your story is one reason why I have a gate at the top of my stairs.

I am so glad to hear that she came when called! And it is every Cairn Owners nighmare as Kay said. I am looking in to getting some sensors installed that will display if the garage doors/house doors/back yard fence gates are open.

And i've found out that one can never have too many baby gates.

Give Fiona a treat from me...

I can imagine your fear. Our kitchen door to the garage is usually the main door we use. I have a side door in my garage which opens to a small fenced area where I let my Cairns out for their "potty" breaks. I ran a white picket type fence from my kitchen door to the side garage door. This way, if my dh were to open the garage, I don't have to worry about my Cairns running away.

I'm so glad Fiona came to you. I love stories w/ happy endings. :)

That must have been scary!!! I'm so happy Fiona came when you called her! It is my worst nightmare (having been through it myself) and I'm sooooo happy yours ended quickly. :)

Glad you got the Lassie back so easily. That situation would've put my stomach in knots for the rest of the day. Hugs and kisses to Fiona.

Thanks! I"m sure Fiona will appreciate the extra hugs when I get home today! :halo: I definitely think a gate is in store for the top of the stairs...I was hesitatnt to put one there because I wanted her to be able to go down to tell me sheneeded to go outside, but at this point I'd rather clean up a little accident than find out my furball is missing!
