hallswel
Has anyone out there read "Marley and Me"? I purchased a copy the other day and it is wonderful. I can relate to so much in the book even though the dog is a Lab. I laughed and thought of all the stories I read here on this website and some of my own experiences as a dog owner. Lots of love has gone into the writing of the book. go to this web site to see the book listen to the excerpt it warms the heart find out about the book when you load the site stay on the home page and scroll down and you will see where it says audio excerpts click on it. If you go to excerpts at the top you only read them you should listen it is awesome. Cairns2
Thank you for posting about this book. I hadn't heard of it but I just read the excerpt and it is wonderful! I am going to buy the book. Before our Cairns we started with a Newfie and then had a female Golden Lab. She was a purebred mix of yellow lab and golden retreiver. She was totally nuts, a perpetual motion machine until she was 8 or 9, but she was also the love of my life. She played Mom to the Cairns and took care of me too. I miss her so much, especially reading the last paragraph about the wet, mud soaked dog. I remember those days very well.

Mollyrocker
I read it a few months ago...I enjoyed it very much, except I bawled my eyes out trying to read the last few chapters. I cried so hard I couldn't see the pages. It is a must read for any dog owner...
Scully'sMom
I was eager to read this book since I'm from Philadelphia and I enjoy John Grogan's columns in our paper. This book was a hoot and a tear jerker and like others, I cried my eyes out at the end. Anyone who loves a dog will love this book!
toomanypaws
I saw the book, but I'm still not over losing my Lab 4 yrs ago. I don't think I'd be able to get through the last chapters. Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
maggie
Finally got around to reading this book, I laughed so many times throughout the book! DH couldn't figure out why I laughed so much, then I hit the end like a brick wall, DH had fallen asleep already and I start crying {actually sobbing!}, to the point my chest hurt. He woke up and freaked out he couldn't figure out what was wrong with me, Kai-lee sleeps next to us and she wakes up and starts howling wondering what is wrong with her momma, all this to say it was the best book I've read in a long time! sanford
Hey Maggie, Please don't take this the wrong way... I had to laugh out loud at your wonderful description...You, in bed sobbing so much that your husband wakes up & freaks out & then Kai-lee starts howling... All I can say is, I've GOT to read this book! FEAR THE CAIRN!

Cairns2
I just ordered the book from Amazon. Can't wait to read it. It will bring back a lot of memories of my Jenny. I am dreading those last few chapters, though. I also ordered "I Toto" the autobiography of Terry, the dog who played Toto. Has anyone read it? So I figured I'd put a hold on the sequal, Marley and me : life and love with the world's worst dog / - Even worse- now, I'm 34th!
AllAboutPetey
I gave "I Toto" to one of my DDs Christmas before last. Recently when we were cleaning out her room, I discovered it again and had to stop everything and read it - fascinating! Teri the Cairn terrier who was in, I believe, 12+ movies reminded me so much of my little rescue, Belle - given over to the trainer because she was timid, fearful, and difficult to housebreak! Amazing!
mrskti
I just bought Marley and Me off audible.com.....that's a nice club. We drive so much audio books are a live saver.....and boring ones make for great nap time!!! Cant seem to find the Toto one on there though, i'd love that one. pookiegirl
Halswel, I cannot believe how timely your post is regarding Maggie & Me. I just read an article about this book in People Magazine. I went online to purchase it today for a friend of mine. Their 14 year old lab went to the Rainbow Bridge on March 5, 2006. I thought it may bring them some comfort to read, what sounds like a wonderful sotry that involves a unique lab. Thanks for your psot & positive comments regarding this book. kayharley
I have that book but because I know the ending, I won't read it. Anything that is about animals, is true to life and will depress me....I'd much rather read something uplifting.
kjwarnold
I just finished Marley & Me this afternoon. It was such a wonderful book! Yes, the ending is sad, but the story is told with so much love and highlights the lessons learned, even in Marley's decline. I'm sending the book off for my brother & his family to read, then it goes to a friend who has an older lab. toomanypaws
I also ordered "I Toto" the autobiography of Terry, the dog who played Toto. Has anyone read it? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I am currently reading "I Toto" and LOVE it! What a truly amazing little Cairn! When I ordered "I Toto", I also bought "100 Years of OZ", by John Fricke. The book is a century of classic images from The Wizard of Oz Collection. This is a must for a collector w/ excellent photography and images. Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)

Barbara <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Barbara, I'm sorry for your friend's loss. I loss my dear Lab over 4 yrs ago, and he will forever have a special place in my heart. Another book that you might want for your friend is Labrador Tales. It's a heartwarming collection of short stories, poems and essays about Labs. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/188521416...ng=UTF8&s=books You really don't need to own a Lab to appreciate this boook. One could put other breeds (even Cairns) into the poems and essays. Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
Cairns2
I read "I Toto" last night and it is fantastic! Loved the photos of Terry with Clark Gable and Shirley Temple. I started "Marley and Me" and soon realized I will need Depends for this book! I am only about 30 pages into the story and I laughed so hard I cried. It is bringing back wonderful memories of my Lab, Jenny. The book is great for all dog owners but if you have, or have had a lab, you will relate. I also bought Cesar Millan's new book on dog training and it is excellent.
grillywarren
Hi All! As a bookstore junkie, I have seen this book a billion times. I have even picked it up and then promptly put it back down. I was SO nervous about reading it. Yes. I am a huge softie! Well, fast forward to last Thursday. Our real estate agent bought me a copy....knowing what a huge dog lover I am. Well, once it was in my hands...I had to read it. Just finished it this AM. Yes, I bawled through the last chapters, so much so that my DH was shocked. That being said,,, it was a Beautiful book. Such a heartwarming tribute to man's (ahhem) woman's best friend, that I would recomend it highly. It is a joy and it made me even more in love with me doggies! If that is possible!!! So, for all those who are hesitant, make someone give it to you! Ellie woman lucky enough to share her life with Grilly and Madison yes....the book made me very emotional!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! goforette
Sounds like Marley and Me is a must read - I'll have to see if I can find it on Amazon later today. I'm a little worried because I'm extra sensitive still from prior losses I think - so hopefully I can get through it without too many tears? I am still finding that a problem - I'm guarding my 2 new girls probably more than they need me to - out of pure fear that something will happen to them. They've quickly taken over my heart again when I wasn't so sure I'd let another furball in. The pain is incredible when you lose one and sometimes I think I'll never truly get over my loss. But will give the book a try... what's the worst I wake up Chris in the middle of the night and Hollie freaks out too right....
