kayharley
No, I didn't sell Elliott on Ebay but I did leave him, Madison and Winnie loose in the house for 2 & 1/2 hours this morning. I came home to three faces plastered against the stairway gate, tails going crazy and just so happy to see me. I don't get that reaction when they're in their crates. I then took off my shoes and felt all rugs for wet spots...none! I checked furniture, paper pails and everything that they could have wrecked havoc with and it was all perfect! I even smelled Elliotts breath for poopie odor just in case he tried to hide the evidence. Someone wake me, I'm dreaming.

CarCarDawn
Hi! I leave Riley in the house ungated and unsecured for many hours on his own - - have never come home to anything but a peepee if it has been too long. You must have been surprised - - - especially since there are three of them - - I think - - - like children - - they think of mischievous things to do when there is more than one to take the blame!!! Precious little guys!!!
savannahsmom35
No, I didn't sell Elliott on Ebay LOL, I must admit, my first thought was about Elliott. Poor guy! Glad to hear that you came home to, well, nothing! We were keeping Savannah baby gated in the kitchen until we came home one day to Savannah running up to greet us (the door we entered was NOT in the kitchen). She had learned to jump over the baby gate. We walked all over the house and couldn't find anything that she had messed up or any accidents. I have been too scared to try it again, ON PURPOSE!!! You are so brave!!!! We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made. -M. Tracy A.
Wonderful Sandy! I am so happy for you On a side note, last weekend while I was out shopping - they boys got the baby gate to the dinning room/formal living room to open- I was gone two+ hours and was freaked when the greeted me at the door. Other than dirty laundry dragged throughout the house, and a few bedroom blankets dragged into the living room- they didn't destroy anything! However, I have made some adjustments to the babygates to make sure it doesn't happen again. They're earning your trust, and as soon as they have it, there'll be a party in your livingroom while you're gone! Believe me, I know from experience! kayharley
Wheezie...I think you're right. They may all be plotting something big for the near future too. I would just love to see what goes on when I'm gone and will admit that I would probably be disappointed if they retreated to their crates. I would never want any destruction but come on.....to watch your Cairns bounce on sofa cushions like that Home Alone kid
TheScotts
Yay for Elliot! We have been leaving the pups loose in the house for 1-2 hours now and again! Started with running down to the mailbox....quick trip to the store.....longer trip to the store....out to dinner! Honestly, they seem happier than when I pen them and every time I come home they are sleeping on the couch. So far so good! On my long days away, they get a section of the kitchen, a doggie door and a section of the yard. Guess our babies are growing up!
mrskti
Are you ever worried they'll dig their way out when they go out through the doggie door? I'd worry that Dori would dig a hole to china, she is one fast digger..... Terry, mom of Dori and Ellie Mae
Fiamma
Is good to know that they are growing up and acting like "mature" kids. It is true that they look happier when they are not in their crates and are able to greet you at the door. I only have one dog that has been running loose in the house since he was a/b 9 months old and he is very excited to see us everytime we come back after work or after running errands. He is not totally in control of the house as I close all the doors of the bathrooms and rooms so he only has access to living room, family room, laundry (where his crate is and his water and food bowl) and kitchen. I have to knock on wood but he has never done anything that will make me rethink a/b putting him back in his crate. Skeeter is now 17 months old and I suspect that he sleeps during the time we are not home. You have to repeat the experiment to see if they continue being the they seem to be. Let us know how it goes.

tena
LOL- I understand the feeling. The first time I left Sophie alone I full expected to find a trashed house and traumatized cats...not. She typically curls up on my bed or in her bed waiting for us to come in. Sophie
