Do you stay in touch with the breeder?

Hi all :)

We have had Bella for 4 weeks now and I thought that we may send a few pics of her "growing up" to our breeder. I thought that she may like to see how Bella is growing up and that she has gone to a home that love her very much - it must be hard for breeders to know if their little ones are going to a good home.....

I thought it would be a good idea to stay in touch - and just send a few letters throughout the year etc etc.

Anyway just wondering if anyone does the same thing and if they wanted to share any stories with us on here

I just adore Elliott's breeder! She is one of a kind.

I email her pictures and stories of my little "demon" and from time to time send her momentos to say thanks for giving me such a wonderful companion.

I too stay in touch with Apollo's breeder. He enjoys our stories and pictures. Since we have moved to Florida, we will not be using his services. He grooms and will board his former pups. I know Apollo got special treatment when staying with him and his family. He wouldn't sleep on his bed, if you know what I mean!

Here he is after his afternoon snooze.

Yes, I have kept in touch with Bear's breeder by sending her updates of how he is growing and with pictures. I also wanted her to know when I fulfilled the contract I signed, eg. neutering. I believe many breeders become quite attached to the pups they breed and really love to keep in touch and know how the pups are doing. I have found it really fun to share with the breeder.

A major advantage of keeping in touch is that the breeder is there as a resource should you have any problems or questions. For example, with our Golden Retriever, we discovered that he had hip displasia. The vet, a young women just out of vet school, wanted to do surgery. We contacted the breeder who is also a vet and sent her the xrays. She advised us not to have the surgery as it was on the mild side and gave us advice as to how to care for the dog, eg. keep his weight down, make sure he walked on softer surfaces, and making sure he got proper exercise (walking and swimming). When we lost our GR, we promptly notified her. She was of tremendous help in determining what happened and definitely wanted to know herself. She also is making it possible for us to get another GR puppy. He/she was born on Jan. 4th and will be coming home to join Bear in March.

I feel it is a real advantage to you to keep in touch with the breeder of your puppy. To me, if he/she is a good breeder, he/she will encourage you to keep in touch.

MAKE it a GREAT day!!! :D

I too keep in touch with Savannah's breeder. She uses me for a reference and uses Savannah's pictures when she shows off some of the puppies that she has bred in the past. Savannah even got a Christmas card from her with a Cairn on it! :)

We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made.

Yes, in fact in addition to getting a beautiful Cairn, we have become friends with our breeders, a real bonus in the deal! They keep in touch with all their dog family and have annual reunions. It's Cairn Chaos!

I think a good, reputable breeder will want to hear from the people who have their dogs.

Yes I stay in touch with both Rebel's, Hammurabi's and Sugar's breeder. I bug them to death sending pictures. I ask all them all kinds of questions and have gotten lots of advice.

Rebel's breeder and I have become good friends and I get to hear about her puppies etc. She is also helping me with grooming and being a general cheer leader where Sugar is concerned.

We have had Widget for almost a month now and we have kept in touch with the breeder. In fact we still have a couple of their books that we borrowed. (Probably should get those back) They have links to my "fotki" site that I put up all my puppy pictures. I plan to use them as a resource or sounding board as I come up with questions or concerns.

I speak with Rusty's breeder weekly ! She has taught me so much about the breed, grooming, training. We can talk for over an hour sometimes - just about Cairns. We also have visited her and his Mom and Aunts. Good breeders do indeed want to hear from owners.

We've only had Dylan for 5 days, but we've already sent pics and updates to the breeder. She loves to hear stories - Dylan was her favorite (and who could blame her!) :P

I tried...... :(

Tabitha came from a breeder that I found to be more of a puppy mill. I bought her at a "pet store" that sold only pets. It seemed to be a great place. They had all the pups in play pens and you could come in and just play with all the dogs. They were very strict about always washing your hands between different dogs. I saw her and fell in love........ I found the name of the breeder from her pet papers. I sent a nice long letter with pictures to her and never heard back.

When we were looking for a second pup we actually drove to her facility (6 hrs away) to look at her pups. I was very happy with Tabitha's health and thought I'd try her again.

Her facility was somewhat clean, but all the dogs were kept outside and she had SEVERAL different breeds. She only had wheaten pups and I really wanted a brindle.

We decided to find a local breeder. We also went to the home to inspect the dogs.

We came home with Teona. I also sent her an e-mail with pictures, but never heard back.

I got Murph and Maddie, 15 years ago from BYBs, so except for a Christmas letter to Maddie's breeder the first year I had her, I haven't kept in touch with them.

I was keeping in touch with my two Collie's breeders though. Oz's breeder even liked hearing about Murph and Maddie and how they all got along with Oz. I don't think I've emailed Oz and Gull's breeders since I started a website with a blog and post pics and stories about them regularly though. They know about the website so they can keep up-to-date on them that way now. If I had a question or an issue, I wouldn't hesitate to email them though.

I've kept in touch with Mett & Bratt's breeder. She specifcally asked me to keep in touch and to send photos. She is a show breeder of Cocker Spaniels, and ventured into Cairns recently. So she is very intrested in hearing how the boys are.

But, next time I will make the investment/plane trip to adopt my next Cairn

from a referral from our awsome forum  (say in 3-6 years get a sister for the boys)

Because having a breeder that really knows the breed, inside and out, is indispensable.

Yes, I do keep in touch with Duffy and Mickey's breeder. They both came from the same one and she is terrific, in fact, she has pictures of them that I sent to her in her website.

I use to keep in touch w/ Kiara and Abbey's breeder. I sent pics for the first year of Kiara and lost touch for a while until Abbey and then send some of her. I need to send some updated pictures. I do keep in touch better w/ Hannah's breeder. He loves getting emails from me and loves seeing little Hannah.
