toomanypaws
Looks like they had a great time playing together. I have a question about your hardwood. We're building a house right now and the lady I'm working w/ suggested depressed hardwood. I've always had ceramic and carpet. This will be my first home adding hardwood. This question is for you or for anyone reading who has hardwood. How well does it hold up with your pets? Have any of you heard of depressed hardwood or do you have one to recommend that is great w/ pets? Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)

CathyAnn
Yes, Piper had a wonderful time playing with our granddoggy. He was a little nervous at first cause Finn is so much bigger than him. But, it didn't take long before they were playing. Beth.....our floors are oak hardwood. You cannot tell from the pics, but there are scratches. They are only on the varnish for the most part, not all the way thru to the wood. They are needing to be refinished soon. I think that to own hardwood, you need to be be bit tolerant of surface scratching. It will be there no matter how hard you try to prevent it. Sometimes it bothers me as I tend to be a perfectionist. But, for the most part, I just love the feel and warmth of real wood. My son had the engineered "wood" flooring and yes, it is more forgiving of scratches. But, I didn't care for it as much as real wood. To me, it looked cheaper and it was very noisey, especially the dog's nails and shoes. Let me know if you have anymore questions. grillywarren
Twomany~ How exciting! My husband and I have built two houses and renovated a condo. (We haven't even been married 5 years! ) We have used hardwood in all. Our first two houses were maple, gorgeous...but they did scratch! In our condo we put in bamboo, yes bamboo. It was gorgeous and it didn't scratch AS MUCH! Here are some pics of the baby on the floor. Bamboo comes in vertical and horizontal, I can't remember which we used, but if you want more info....pm me! Ellie Have Fun! p.s. if you are intalling an alarm system....I recommend chimes on doors. Anytime one of my doors opens I hear a chime. It actually saved my babies once when the wind blew open a door I hadn't shut completely. I heard the charm and the kiddos barking ....I went to see what was going on....the dogs were running around in the front yard
Scully'sMom
CathyAnn, great pictures!!! I really love the one of them zonked out. When they play, they play hard - and then boy do they sleep!
toomanypaws
That Bamboo looks nice! I meant we were looking at distressed hardwood, not depressed. It's only going to be in the formal living & dining room. It's has a little more of a rough look and isn't suppose to scratch. distressedhardwood Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)

Eliz222
Great pictures, Cathy! They look like they were having a blast!!! When we built our house, we put in hardwood throughout the first floor. We have prefinished wood, which means it was sealed in a factory and this means usually a harder seal and more coats than on "on site sealing". Hope this makes sense! mrskti
we put oak hardwood in our house when we built 14 years ago, our golden put the first scratches in, then you just dont look too closely. Looks good in pictures though!!!! We have one bedroom left with carpet and thanks to the girls pulling that up, it will be wood soon too. They wont like that though, they love the grip they get to run around on carpet. Terry, mom of Dori and Ellie Mae
abe's dad
There is a product out there for finishing the floors that is supposed to be real good the Brand name is Fabulon. it is an industrial grade varnish type of stuff. I would only suggest it if you are going to be able to be out of the house for a while after you apply it. The fumes are terrible. We used Minwax oil based urethane on ours they do have a few scratches but we were still living in the house when I refinished the floors so we could not tolerate the smell of the other stuff. Dawnya
YAY! What fun! I bet they did sleep good. As for scratching on hardwood floors, that's what rugs are for!
savannahsmom35
We have hardwood floors in our dining room and foyer and so far, Savannah has not managed to scratch it at all. In fact, I often throw her ball in the foyer for her to chase because she can't get any traction on the hardwoods and she slides all over. It is so funny and she seems to like it. Ours are obviously a lot darker in color than the others so maybe that makes a difference?? The only scratch we have on ours is from the movers... This is a picture of Savannah on Halloween waiting for the next trick-or-treaters to ring the doorbell. We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made. -M. Acklam Savannah's Dogster Page
Brody'sMom
I've seen the distressed hardwood and I really like it. DH and I agree that when we build our dream house it will probably have that throughout. We just love the rustic look. However, we are about to put 840 square feet of hardwood in our current house (lovely, but not the dream house!) and we chose prefinished red oak in a satin finish. I chose the satin finish as I thought it would hide scratches better than a gloss (okay, I'm lying, that was a consideration, but I really chose it because the satin finish matches the rest of the floors where the glossy finish has worn off!).
