mrskti
I have the house decorated for christmas, the only one that makes the dogs crazy is the mantle where i have a mickey and minnie that move....Dori goes nuts!!! We had to turn the lights off and make her sit on our laps to calm her down. I hope i can get her to calm down..... Do any of your cairns hate any of your decorations?? Any clues on how to get them use to them??? Terry, mom of Dori and Ellie Mae
MilesMom
Hi there! This is Miles' first Christmas, and he seemed completely confused as to why we'd put a tree INSIDE the house . In front of the tree, my daughter placed her 2 foot tall nutcracker, and for about 3 days afterward, every time Miles came into our living room, he would start barking furiously at the nutcracker. I finally sat down by the nutcracker, and my little shadow came up to me and I let him sniff and completely check out the nutcracker, until he lost interest. Since then, he's not given one hoot about it. So, maybe demystifying the Mickey and Minnie by taking them down to Dori's level so she can check them out and realize that they're not scary might help. Good luck! Dana a.k.a. Miles' Mom
mrskti
Hi Dana, you know it's funny, I have *5* trees up and they dont even phase them!!! Two little mickey and minnies are driving them nuts. I did hold them both up to them and they stopped barking, but as we sit in our chairs, she just keeps barking. I'll have to unplug them and bring them down to their level like you suggest, maybe that will do it. All the crap I have around and they bother them!!! they are funny little critters, arent they!!! brin145
I was worried that it might be a big deal (or ordeal). As soon as the Christmas tree went up, Crunch would disappear from my sight and I would find him under the Christmas tree looking like a a present. He doesn't mess with anything at all; he just likes to hide out underneath the tree. I keep trying to grab my camera for a pic, but anytime he sees the the camera he scoots on out. Teri9672
I only decorated the formals this year. Those rooms are off limits to the kiddos. They can only look at the tree from behind bars.....LOL
mrskti
I think the room with most of the trees, they are more interested in running on the monster sofa. They love that darn thing! I should get a picture of that! But they havent looked at one tree...i'm impressed! So far! edit: btw, i've posted two pics on their first time in the snow in the "Their new favorite place" thread. I hope to get out in thier yard today w/the camera and them. big shopping day though.....ugh Terry, mom of Dori and Ellie Mae
kayharley
Believe it or not, even Elliott is not messing with the tree. I think he's waiting for the presents to go under it...those bows and ribbons are just too enticing. This is a funny story about my older Cairn, Winnie. Quite a few years ago we set up our Christmas tree in the downstairs family room. Winnie was our only Cairn at the time and she never got into anything. She was, and still is very laid back and couldn't care less about causing mischief. One afternoon she came up the stairs limping really bad. I though she might have hurt her paw jumping off the sofa down there. You can imagine my surprise when I found about a dozen sharp little splinters of a candy cane wedged in the fur in her front paws. Her face had the "I'm sorry I got caught" expression on it and along with more candy cane pieces stuck on her beard, she was busted!! I remember that like it was yesterday and I still chuckle everytime I think of it. I guess everyone has their breaking point...peppermint is Winnies. CathyAnn
So far, Piper is showing little interest in the tree . BUT, everytime I try to sit down on the floor for a wrap-a-thon, he is right there amongst all the paper and ribbons. He likes those huge cardboard roll ends from the wrapping paper. It is so funny to watch him dragging them around! Eventually, he shreds them, though!! Cathy Cathy and Piper
savannahsmom35
Piper sounds like Savannah. She hasn't shown much interest in the tree. But when I wrap, she sits on the middle of the paper everytime! She often looks at me like, What are you doing??? We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made. -M. Acklam Savannah's Dogster Page
DashellKc
We just put our tree up last night. The dogs sniffed it and now, hopefully, will leave it alone. So far so good. Even my 18month old dd is leaving it alone. Maybe I will get luck this year! Taylor
toomanypaws
We have the tree in the living room, which is off limits to the furkids for the most part. Keeping my dd's kitten out of that room has been hard. This is our first time putting the tree in the living room. I wanted it in front of the window this year. Last year, the Cairns did fine w/ the tree in the family room. Mike, cute story! <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/maiwag/terriersiggy.jpg" border="0" class="linked-sig-image" /> Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)

ParNone
I bought this cute lil' Reindeer decoration. It lights up and rocks back and forth, while singing "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer". I really thought since it was more or less a stuffie, that Murph would be going for its throat in a matter of minutes. He has been absolutely perfect though. Sniffed it once, but has ignored it since. Guess he wants to make sure Santa knows he's been a good lil' Cairn this year. The Collies have been quite fascinated by it though. On the second day that I had it, I heard all this barking coming from the den. I run in there to see what's up and there stands my Collie, with his stuffed duck toy sitting at the feet of the reindeer, barking at the reindeer to throw it. LOL! I guess he figured if it could sing and move, it could make itself useful and throw his toy for him. Les...
