I love my Cairn

Its been a year now, and I had to pass along how deeply in love I am with my Digby. I grew up with a dog (Black Lab) and I have to say I never thought I could care more, but I do. This dog is such a part of our family unit and our lives in general and the joy I get from just being in the same room with him is absolutely immeasurable. The best part of my days are when I am with him (hopefully my wife doesnt read this).

My summation, a Cairn Terrier is a treasure, and I (and probably all you) have been truly blessed to be able to say that I got to spend time with such a wonderful creature at least once in my life. I never take it for granted, not for a moment.

I just had to share that with all of you, I am sure most of you feel the same way, and that is even more amazing. So many lucky people, and we owe it all to the wonderful Cairn Terrier!

Thanks to this website, and most importantly thanks to our furry little friends. :)

Newcairn, you summed it up very nicely how we all feel about out Cairns. We have been Cairn owners for the last 20 something years and wouldn't think about having any other type of dog (well, except for Molly, who is our mixed terrier). Even my husband, who preferred big dogs, really fell in love with our Cairns. In my opinion, there just isn't any better breed than the Cairn.

That is very beautiful. I think one of the things that I love so much about the breed is how responsive they are to things. Sometimes I think Savannah listens and understands me more than my DH! Now that I have owned a Cairn, I would never own another breed.

We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made.

Aren't they a joy to have? My DH would say the same thing! He and Alfie are such buddies, Alfie is my DH's shadow. The daily walks, running around the house, hide and seek games....

Also, my DH won't consider any other breed for a second dog other than another cairn!

Bear came to live with us the end of August and as with everyone else has won our hearts. My husband generally went along with my desire to have a Cairn as indulging me in order for me to be happy. He's a sweety in that way. Just this morning as he was putting his socks and slippers on, Bear jumped up on the couch next to him, climbed up on his shoulder, and gave him several puppy kisses on his cheek. My DH just smiled and said that Bear is such a great puppy. Me? I fell in love with Bear the moment I laid eyes on him. He has such a sweet personality and is so much fun. I would love to have a second Cairn, but that won't be happening for a while as we are getting a Golden Retriever pup in the spring. As much as we love Bear, Dave still wants a big dog. That's OK as I love goldens, too. That will bring us back to 3 dogs as we have my Mom's dog with us. She's 12 yrs. old. I'm hoping after she meets her end, I'll be able to talk my DH into a little female Cairn. I just love puppies, esp. Cairns. Life is so warm with puppy love in it.

MAKE it a GREAT day!!! :D

Newcairn, you are absolutely right. I know how you feel. Fergus has been with us for eight months and I've never enjoyed a pet as much in my life. My wife and I are empty nesters...no grandkids!!. Fergus is a bundle of energy. He came along and made us feel wanted and needed again!

I just cannot picture my life without a Cairn in it.

Exactly how I feel, and I often wonder how I went so long without him. I know its a morbid though, but I often think about the fact he will most likely go before my wife and I and how hard it will be.

Nice to hear everyones thoughts. :)

I have been missing my pup big time, and call my parents every night to ask them how they are doing (but spend 99% of the call discussing Bosco!). I felt so guilty when I left Bosco with my parents, guilty for giving my parents more work to do and guilty for not taking care of my pup, but now I am glad I did it. I miss my pup soooo much, but I know he is having a better standard of living by staying in the US, and I know my parents love him so much, and he so loves them. I am just happy he knows his mommy is visiting whenever I go home to my parents. :) Of course I scrimp and save so I can get home as much as I can (expensive when flying internationally every couple of months!) - but the joy that I know Bosco brings my parents, and the huge amount of love I know they give him, and he gives them, makes things bearable.

Dear Newcairn,

I share your feelings re the mortality of our pets, especially because I have a senior dog. The other day someone pointed out that it's better that way, for our pets to leave us first.

We humans live with the concept that our pets have a short life span as part of the natural order of things. Our dogs could never understand if we were to leave them first.

This point of view still makes me feel sad, but in a way, it comforts me at the same time.

FEAR THE CAIRN!

I am always glad to hear that I am not the only one sooooo enthusiastic over my Cairn. Crunch is like a child to me. I work in a small office where three co-workers have new babies all under 8 months old. I talk as much or more about my dog than they do their babies. I feel sure that they think I'm a nut. I went on a trip last month with my husband and his co-workers. They all knew about Crunch too! So, it's both of us. I've quizzed my husband....do other dog owners fall in love with their dogs like we have? He assures me that they do, but I don't know...I will definitely be getting another Cairn sometime in the future.

Ruby came to be with us about 4 weeks ago (she's 2 1/2) after we lost our Sheltie. We do not regret our decision to return to the terrier world one second. Ruby makes us laugh every day with her antics. Our Sheltie was an amazingly obedient dog that never did anything wrong. Ruby, in comparison, is a devilish imp with a character that warms your heart. I guess I'm hooked!

I read your post the other day and ran out of time to reply. This is a beautiful post and so true. I too love my Cairns so much and could never imagine life w/o them. I love their expressions, their happiness, and their enthusiasm. I love that they love me unconditionally and always seem to put a smile on my face.

I love my Cairns too......sometimes people make fun about how we treat our pets and how we talk to them, but I don't care what they think about my "sweet wittle funny bears". :D

People make fun of me too for the way I treat Savannah. People just don't understand how they can grab your heart until they own one.
