I can't believe how well this works!

I bought a Sporn halter a few weeks ago and I can't believe how much nicer walking Finch is!!! She doesn't pull at all and seems to really enjoy her walks! I can even walk Scout and Finch together and not come home with a sore arm. I can't remember who suggested this halter, but THANK YOU!!

Is this harder to put on than the regular harness? Just yesterday at the park Wes pulled so much I thought I was in Alaska behind a sled. "On Ye huskies!" (From Sargent Preston and Yukon King (Old time TV.)

Once you put it on a few times you get the hang of it and it actully goes on quicker than a regular harness....youll like it if you try it

It was confusing to put on at first. I put it all in place and now I just slip her front legs in the loops and clip the collar on. I left it on Finch for a few hours when we first bought it, and she didn't seem to mind having it on....a good sign!

When we took her on her first walk, with the harness, she proudly walked right beside me.....it was like night and day....a totally different experience!

Shoe - where did you purchase the halter? Tink needs something to control her when she is out hunting squirrels. My poor dh takes her out several times a day and he says she is out of control pulling him around looking for squirrels. Perhaps one of those halters would help.

Linda, I bought mine at Petsmart. They only had large sizes, so I had to wait for them to order a size small. When I went to pick it up, they only had ONE in size small.....maybe it's a popular size??

I would give it a try...it's great!

I also love it

I got it for Tabitha because she could pull as hard as a sled dog....... :P

Since her injury I haven't been able to take her on walks. It really did help with the pulling. I also got a double lead so the girls were both on the same leash. This also made walks easier. It will be months before I can get the girls out for walks again.

I just play bouncy ball with Teona for her exercise while Tabby is healing.

the sporn only really works for me when there are no real distractions...if there are other dogs forget about it. I dont even use mine anymore.

Binx -

The reason Sporn halters are supposed to be effective is that they pull the dog from the shoulders. This seems to impede the dog's ability to pull with its front legs, unlike standard halters which allow the dogs full use of their shoulders & legs for traction & pulling.

I've used the Sporn with a Golden & with a Chow, both notorious "pullers" and both 90 lbs. each. It took the dogs a few tries before they became accustomed to the feel of the Sporn. They walked unnaturally slowly at first. After they adjusted to it, it worked like a charm.

The weird thing is, my 15lb Cairn seems totally immune to the Sporn and pulls as strongly as ever. Gotta laugh!

FEAR THE CAIRN!
