bubba
Boy oh boy...things were blowing here last night! Add the pouring down rain and tree branches bumping around, my dogs were not happy campers. And then the power went out. Well, once I got candles lit (which Yoda did not like the smell of or the flickering on the walls/ceilings), I had to go to the garage w/my husband so he could show me how to open the garage door w/out the opener in case it was off all night, so I could get to work today (he works graveyards). Once I was back in the house, they were on my lap or at my feet and would not budge.....don't they realize it's dark every night when they sleep??? I live with whimp dogs!!! BOO! I'm sure it was the sounds outside more than the darkness, but it was amusing. pat. Children don't care how much you know...they want to know how much you care. Guest Guest
Oh...that is so funny, Pat. I could see how the shadows would be a bit spooky especially because they'd be moving. And then you have the wind....mine go nuts whenever we have storms. I'm assuming because you were able to poste that your power is back on...hope you all have a better evening tonight. mrskti
My girls dont like the candle flicker on the walls either. Since it's starting to get dark at like....noon, I've been lighting candles in the living room on the mantle, they didnt like it too much but are getting use to it. I'm curious how they'll react to the first fire in the fireplace! Terry, mom of Dori and Ellie Mae
Eliz222
My two don't seem to mind storms, but I owned a dog years ago that was scared to death of rain....she would shake and cling to me and nothing I did helped. Did they calm down later in the evening? Maybe it was the wind they were scared of....sometimes I even get scared when the wind sounds like it's going to take my roof off! bubba
They didn't calm down till the power came back on, it was about 9:30pm...after that they were happy campers. It's possible they were noticing my nervousness, because I was not happy to be home in the dark w/no power. Many of you know that I work at 911 and therefore, I know more than I need to know! There is a serial rapist that has been out and about the past few weeks and that was all I could think about...and then I was stuck with my whimp dogs! I know that I was safe, but w/no burglar alarm, I was not happy! Living in Washington, the rain has never bothered them. However, we had a long, dry, hot summer and now that fall is upon us, they seem to have forgotten what rain is......I'm really looking forward to Hawaii! pat. toomanypaws
Out of all my Cairns, it's my oldest who is the wimp in the house if a thunderstorm is approaching. She acts like a tough killer outdoors, taking on anything that moves. Indoors, the minute rain starts, she wants the security of her crate. Her wimpering causes Abbey to wimper too. Only little Hannah doesn't seem to mind a change in weather. Candles don't bother any of them, but maybe it's because I love candles and they have grown up seeing me light them. Now, they do have a problem w/ fiber optic lighting, especially Abbey. I bought my dd this cute Halloween fiber optic light and it drove Abbey crazy, which caused Hannah to bark too. I hope they catch the rapist in your area. As wimpy as your dogs may be, I'm sure they would sound their barking alarm if anyone got too close to your home. My three think they own the entire cul-de-sac we live on. <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/maiwag/terriersiggy.jpg" border="0" class="linked-sig-image" /> Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
Eliz222
I think they sensed your tension.....I would have been hiding under the bed WITH my dogs if I knew what you knew! Yikes! I'm glad you have your power on!
hallswel
I am with Shoe they probably did know you were a little worried. Rebel is a whimp when it comes to gunshots and thunderstroms. He will head for under the bed! My other two could care less. Liz Rebel, Hammurabi, Sugar, Dirty Harry, Paint, Duncan and Saffron
bubba
Speaking of gunshots.....the serial rapist was caught early this morning up in Federal Way. He had entered an apartment of a single mother w/two teenage daughters last nigth about 1130 and proceeded to assault them until early this morning when he fell asleep and they took the opportunity to escape. The police surrounded the apartment and when he tried to flee (armed w/a gun), he was shot and taken to the hospital. I'm glad it's over. pat.
