Cairn Growth

Sherman went for his second vet appt today and we were shocked, he went from 3.3 lbs to 5.8 lbs in a month!

He's eating about 1 cup of Buffalo Blue per day with a few treats here and there for training.

Sherman is just about 3 months.

Our vet said that they grow the most in the first few months and then it begins to slow down. I think Savannah gained weight about the same rate as Sherman. She is almost 6 months old and she is now 12 pounds. If you look at how much your pups mom and dad weighed, you can get a pretty good idea of how much your pup will weigh. Savannah's mom was 13 pounds and her dad was 12. Here's hoping she won't get TOO much bigger than she already is (wishful thinking maybe?)! :D

We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made.

A breeder friend told me this, if you take your pup's weight at 8 wks and multiply it X's 3, that will give you an estimate of his/her weight as an adult.

My youngest, Hannah weighed 3.5 lbs at 8 wks and now at 13 mths weighs 11 lbs.

My middle cairn, Abbey weighed 4.11 lbs at 8 wks and now at 19 mths weighs 13 lbs.

Bad mommy here, I can't find my records on my oldest cairn, but I do know that she was always the largest, even as a puppy and now weighs around 18 lbs.

Don't take this as fact, it may just be a coicidence that it worked for me.

Well, since Sherman and Savannah have the same dad, and the mom wasn't too much bigger, I think he'll be about the same.

Sherman's brother was 4.3 lbs last week, so I guess Sherman's just going to stay the bigger brother!

Did the vet think that he was too fat? If not, I'd not worry. There's plenty of time for that!
