premature graying?

Does anyone know when it is normal for a cairn to start getting white hair, or is it normal at all. I have a 12 yr old black female with a brindle undercoat, although she does have a tiny white patch on her chest.

Hi JAM, I have a Cairn that is 9 months old. And he had what I thought

was white on his nose, one day outside in the sun when he was playing, I saw what I thought was white was silver, which is an okay color for Cairns.
