HOW HIGH?

I am curious how high and how agile Bruschi will be. I know he will be able to get up on the couch soon, but curious the high places your cairns have been able to get to..

My male can get a sponge off a standard-height kitchen counter, when the sponge is about 8 inches back from the edge. I've not actually been able to catch him doing it, but the shredded sponges in the family room prove his ability. He used to shred them himself - now he fetches the sponge for the puppy to shred. Kindly grandpa.

Logan is a non jumper. He gets onto the standard stuff, couch, chair, etc. but he can't even get up on the bed. He revs up and then stops. He will also only jump in certain ways. For example, to get onto DH's open recliner, he goes to the arm and jumps there...no open spaces for this little guy! I think that may be part of the issue with the bed.

Very funny non the less.

Scully can get onto the sofas but the beds are way too high for her. She does jump off the beds which I try to avoid because I'm afraid of her getting hurt. But you know how fast these little ones are - she takes a flying leap as she sees me coming towards her.

Jumping is bad enough. Wait till you get a climber. Then it doesn't matter how high a gate or ex-pen is. We had to switch to vertically slatted gates in the house instead of mesh gates to stop our climber. She can jump above the gate straight up, but can't seem to add the forward component required to leap over. We have to put a lid on ex-pens for her.

Liddy will sometimes plot and execute a surprise attack jump on whoever is sitting in our recliner. Usually she will just bark until the person picks her up, but when the mood strikes her she will leap directly onto your lap. Its about a 2.5 to 3 foot leap (she does this from standing).

We also keep Liddy confined to the kitchen and family room with foot high fences. Usually they are laying down where she could easily jump over them. For some reason, Liddy has never jumped them. She will come to a screeching halt if the fence is upright or down. If the fence is removed, however, she'll take off into the living room or up the stairs.

Kiara has no problem jumping over a 2 ft baby gate. Abbey's not much of a jumper. Hannah can jump as high as the door knob on a door to be let in. She is the smallest of the three and can jump as high as the counter.

Allie has a vertical leap that would probably make her the envy of a pro basketball recruiter -- except, of course, she would never hand over a ball to anyone! When excited, she can jump straight up as high as my waist (and I'm 5' 7").

She's pretty good at getting up on the bed too, and it's one of those with the extra deep mattresses. UNfortunately, she'll only jump up when we're not in bed. If we are, she scratches my arm until I lift her up onto the bed. This means that, if she wants to get into bed, she has to wake me up first. Hmmmmpf.

The other cairn in the neighborhood (Angus) is just as agile, and has been known to hop over the three foot fence in their yard and head for the corner...

Our 7month old male Cairn loves to jump up and fetch magnets from the refrigerator door. So we moved all our children's artwork and such up to freezer level and still today I found him with a magnet. He is nothing if not persistent!

Madison is amazing in that department. She flys over our stone walls like she's superdog or something. Her latest thing is jumping up on top of a crate then climbing on top of the gerbil cage. I think she's trying to make new friends.

Poor Elliott just sits by and watches.

 about Madison! If that were Carolina she would be thinking "kill the mouse"! Just this morning she started sniffing near the door where she tore up the carpet last year trying to get to a mouse. I suppose I should freshen the cheese in the traps again...

As for jumping, Carolina flies off our 3 ft. retaining wall like she's jumping in a pool, and back up it again too. She also jumps on and off our bed with an extra deep mattress and of course jumps onto the back of our sofa to get to her window "hammock". Once, when she was over at my parents' my dad found her on top of the wood pile, (probably searching for mice!) So she climbes too!
