Popular Post Dempsy's Mom
Yesterday morning we went on our normal poo walk. Elsie and Dempsy located a gopher under the barn door. He was whistling at them and driving them nuts. I could not get that door open so they stayed there a half hour or so attempting to scare him out. Finally I had to physically remove them. This morning we went on our poo walk and where do you suppose Demps and Els went? Yup, directly to that barn door. That gopher was underneath it again, but this time he was on the other side so I could open it. Elsie was at one end and Demps at the other. I slowly rolled the door open and the gopher scooted along to keep up with it. Then he ran into a stopper and his butt hung out and Demps was there. Dempsy snagged the gopher and in a couple of shakes he was dead. Elsie ran over to see the gopher but Dempsy immediately pranced off back to the house with a big gopher in his jaws. He was so very proud. When I got up to the house Elsie was still trying to see it, but Demps wouldn't let her. Dempsy snuck around in back of the house and dug the gopher his last hole. Demps spent a lot of effort on his burial. When he was finished he went over to his pool and climbed in for a well deserved rest. He was just beaming the rest of the day. With his back legs being a bit of a hamper it was nice to see him get a good hunt. It was a big deal for him. Here he is busy with the burial. Muddy nose used as a shovel. Ahhhh close your eyes & daydream. Edited June 25, 2017 by Dempsy's Mom 13 Quote Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori

I'm always impressed with the "prey memory" of these cairns. We can retrace the same route 2 hours later, or 2 days after spotting a squirrel in a particular tree and Ruffy will make a beeline for it, scanning the branches overhead, excited and alert, hoping, expecting(?) the squirrel to still be there! Kathryn
Having a little "hitch in his gitalong," as Steve calls it, isn't slowing Demps down. Oban is jealous - he has heard that irritating gopher whistle but never caught the gopher... Good dog, Demps!
Hillscreek
Back legs maybe a bit of a nuisance but can be ignored when important work must be done!
hheldorfer
RIP, Mr. Gopher, but it's great to see Demps carrying on in classic Cairn fashion. Love the muddy nose at the end.

Pepper Bug's Mom
Those Cairns are so smart....poor Teddy the lab lost the ball at the dog park (no one is ever at the dog park so wide open!)...Pepper watched where it went and sat there for a full 2-3 minutes and then bolted straight across and found the ball (a good long distance too!) Teddy was still looking in the wrong spot! I think Cairns are amazing!!!! 6 Quote Pepper's Mom
