Addie's Getting A Dental

I know it's not feasible for everyone financially, but Addie's insurance offers an optional wellness plan that has now repaid me for $650 of her dental (we live in the D.C. area so everything costs more than many other places in the country). I just got the insurance last month and the dental has already made the extra wellness plan worth the cost of the plan.

It's not an endorsement of a particular plan but for reference Addie has Embrace Pet Insurance and their extra wellness plan. I've found it very easy to navigate and my research showed more coverage at a better cost in my particular situation, and they are one of the few companies I've found that offers wellness coverage (for routine care). They also offer a healthy pet reward, where the deductible goes down for ever year Addie doesn't have an accident or injury (wellness claims don't count against the reward). Like I said, not an endorsement, but I found the search for pet insurance confusing and overwhelming, so I thought I'd mention what has worked for me and why.

Also, (and it's a little late for me to mention this!) February is National Pet Dental Health Month (https://www.avma.org/Events/pethealth/Pages/February-is-National-Pet-Dental-Health-Month.aspx) so a lot of veterinary practices offer a dental discount this month. Addie's vet offers the Feb discount as long as you get your dental w/in 30 days of getting a February estimate.

Good luck to Elsie, Dempsy, Echo, Stella, Granger, and Dundee! Hope to see lots of shiny white teeth soon!

I would not be without insurance either Whits! I use Trupanion and they also have a wellness package. I must say it certainly has paid off in our case also and of course knowing I never have to say no I can't afford that especially in a emergency situation.

I will have to look into it again.  What happens when you adopt and there are preexisting health problems?  Will they take them?  Thanks for the info anyway.

I don't know of any insurance companies that will address pre existing issues, but you never know. Google around. Like I said I am very happy with our company. Pretty sure Trupanion will insure older pets. What I like is that you can change your deductible .

With Addie's insurance, as far as I know, routine dental care (teeth cleaning and extractions) is covered under a wellness plan that doesn't take into account the presence of pre-existing conditions. Also, her insurance only takes into account the time during which you've had the dog. Like Terrier Lover said, look around.

Addie's insurance, since I waited almost 5 years to get it, won't cover treatment for the allergies she's developed in the last year. But it will cover most other illnesses and injuries.
