Cairn ears

We have had our Cairn for just over a week. He is now 9 1/2 weeks old. When we welcomed him home both ears were erect; according to the breeder they had just become that way. Now, one has flopped over, just in the last couple of days. Is this normal? Will it return to it erect state? Any insight from experience with this will be appreciated!

I wouldn't worry too much about that ear. Some pups take longer than others, but they all come up eventually. (of course, there are some exceptions to the rule!) Give it time and I'll bet that ear goes back up again. In the meantime, take lots of pictures. There's nothing cuter than a cairn with one floppy ear!

Not to worry, 9 1/2 weeks is still young for the ears to stay erect. I have 3 cairns and they all went through that floppy stage w/ their ears. I noticed w/ my youngest one Hannah that when she woke up from a nap, she'd be so relaxed and one of her ears, even both would be down. I'm sure your pup will have both ears staying erect in no time. Meanwhile, send some pictures of your cutie.

Thanks, all, for the assurance that the ears of our puppy, Koda, will not remain floppy. I was not real worried, but thought I would check on others' experience. I had a Cairn for 14 years, ending about 10 years ago, so it is a delight to now have another in our home, an opportunity to introduce our children, 11 and 7 years old, to this great breed of dog. It is also a reminder to me of the strong spirit of this dog, its energy, and its way of immediately becoming one of the family.
