Guess What?

I was reading the paper this morning and drinking my tea, when I saw an ad for a 9 mo. old male brindle cairn terrier. The number was really local, so I called just to see what the story was. Turns out they had two other dogs, one cairn and one 9 year old poodle. This lady just couldn't handle three of them. She was putting this one up because she felt he would have a better chance of being adopted due to his sweet temperament. Well, I asked all the right questions and told her about my home and family. She felt we would be a good match, but already had an appt. with another lady within the hour. I told her to call me back if this lady didn't want him, but who wouldn't want him, right?

Long story short, the lady that came first was a breeder who decided she couldn't use him b/c he was too long in body. They didn't like her cold and businesslike attitude and had decided that they wouldn't let her take him anyway, but she saved them the trouble.

I got the call and went to see him. I brought Tucker along too and they hit it off immediately. I fell in love. His name is Scruffy, and I think it fits him. He's sweet as can be, not alpha, very obedient and is crate trained and housebroken. The funny thing is that just yesterday I told my daughter that I wish I could find a 6-9 month old pup, preferably dark or brindle, so that I didn't have to go through the whole puppy training again.

I have very high hopes for him. The only bad thing so far is that he has never been around cats, and immediately saw Mr. Kitty as prey. Rocky tried to set him straight, but Scruffy was too focused to pay attention! :nono: lol

Anyway, here's a picture of him:

Congrats on your new boy. What a cutie! I want to reach into the screen and pull some of that wispy hair off the tip-top of his ears - although then he wouldn't be Scruffy I guess. He's a lovely color and has a big smile - almost as big as yours, I'll bet :)

Oh, how wonderful!! He is adorable even with the shaggy ears. I'm so glad for you.

What is it about us Cairn lovers that we need/want/crave more and more of them in our lives? My 3 are taking up 99.9% of my time but I wouldn't want it any other way.

See what toomanypaws is doing to all of us? :D:P:):shock:

You know, I was going to let him get acclimated to his surroundings before attempting to groom him, but he looked so much like a yak that I couldn't resist! You'll be happy to know that his ears are very tidy now and the shaggy stuff around his hindquarters is thinned out a bit. He was laying on the grass next to me and didn't seem to mind at all, so I kept pluckin'. What a good boy he is!

Oh Thela, what a sweetheart Scruffy is! Isn't is amazing how life turns out just right sometimes? He must be the happiest Cairn coming to such a great home.

Many full-filled years ahead!

Wheezie23, congrats!! He's adorable. He's the color I imagine Aidan will turn out to be. Now he's a little darker, but has lightened up quite a bit since I first got him, he' now about 12 weeks. ( I wish sooo bad I could figure out how to get a pic on here, but have given up):-( Enjoy him.

I did a google search for cairn gifs (dog gifs would work too), saved them in a special folder in my pictures on the hard drive, then uploaded them to imageshack. Once I did that, I did a siggy test in the test forum. Hope this helps.

What a cute puppy! I'm not sure if I should apologize or congratulate you. :D:lol::D What can I say except cairns have taken over my life. My dh teases me about "my girls". Would you believe I still catch myself checking classifieds or surfing some of my favorite breeder sites on the web? I know I'm stopping w/ three, but I sitll love looking, love the variety of colors these cuties come in too. I think he's adorable and I love the scruffy ears. All 3 of mine need a slight grooming. I'm great w/ the coat king on their body but I need their ears and legs cleaned up.

My oldest Kiara is a brindle. At 3 yrs old, I've watched her go from black w/ red accent to a lighter shade, back to a medium dark. My almost 6 mth old Hannah is a cream brindle. She was black at birth and I was hoping she'd be a dark brindle but more cream has come out. In the house she still looks very dark but when I take her outside, I can see the cream in her sides. I guess cream brindle can come in many shades and she's on the darker side now. Her black muzzle now has a tint of auburn in it.

Sometimes I think I should have been a breeder of cairns and did the whole show ring. I wish I would have grown up in that environment as you really need to get in the ring young to get recognized. My friend breeds cairns and my dh does the health certificates for him. Visiting him and seeing all of his cairns is better than Disney World for me. :D My problem would be placing the puppy to the right home and trying to give my attention to all of the breeders.

As for a cat in the house, Kiara has never accepted our cat and he was here first. She taught Abbey to chase the cat. When they go to bed at night, I have to throw a sheet over the babygate so they don't see the cat pass by in the hallway. Little Hannah doesn't really care about the cat, hope it stays that way.

Show us more pics soon!

Yeah, what she said - :D I was looking at other gifs and saw the pup and saved it. I don't remember if I uploaded it to my Comcast website and then linked it or if I saved it to my desktop, then right-clicked on it and copied the "properties."

Guest Darcys mom

He is so adorable!!! How could anyone give him up? He looks just like my Darcy only she is older (bigger) and now her mustache (sp?) is beginning to turn auburn. I saw on this post that another brindle has auburn around its mouth. I thought Darcy was weird because she is this pretty shade of brindle except for the auburn.

I wish you many, many happy years with Scruffy. I know he was meant for you.

Sandy
