Been less than a month and still miss my companion Samantha. First time I have had no dogs in the house for over thiry years. Was less than two years ago my other cairn, Sandy, past away. Always had two dogs but Samantha was the best companion dog so I found no need to have two dogs. Thought Samantha would last another 3-4 years. Unfortunately at the age of l0 did not expect her to have lynophma cancer. After last then a year and various treatments her kodneys finally failed.

Don't want to live without another dog but she will be hard to replace. Actually my last two cairns, Samantha and Sandy were the best dogs I have ever had togehter.

I'm so sorry for your loss of Samantha. She sounded like a wonderful gal, Sandy too. How wonderful you got to know and love these two lovely creatures. I hope your good memories help the pain of losing them. It's one of the greatest injustices of life, that our furry friends leave us way too early.  ((((Hugs))))

Each one is special and it is very hard when they leave us. No one dog can replaces another. All are special in their own way. It's a platitude I know but time will pass. Memories will remain and a new friend may join you.  Angus is my new friend after an unexpected loss.

Special thoughts are with you.

It's so tough to lose them. Hold your memories close to your heart.

Thanks everybody for their kinds words. As much as I miss my dogs everyday I know I will be able to find another cairn in the future that will become my new companion and friend.

Your house must be echoing the with memories of both of those sweeties. So sorry that they are parted from you. I hope another Cairn comes into your life at the perfect moment for both of you.

  • 2 weeks later...

People keep telling me to just go to North Shore Animal League and get a dog -- why do I want a cairn.

I did have a few other dogs but my husband and I picked a cairn as our first dog and had three in total over the years. We both just happen to love the cairn terrier. Right now my home is empty but my husband are searching for another cairn and it is not easy.

It is not easy to find a Cairn.  But as you and your husband know....SOOOOOO well worth it!!!  My suggestion is to go onto the Cairn Terrier Club of America and find a club nearest you.  Go on their website and look under the officers...there should be a person that handles the contacts for rescue/puppies or just adoption of an elder Cairn.  We found our Sulley doing this and NEVER regretted it since!!  The Cairn is a special dog for special people!!

If you have any trouble email me or anyone on this forum...I am sure they are ALL willing to help!!

Very sorry for your loss. They look beautiful. ...... No cairn will replace them, but I bet you will have another best cairn. :)

Each one has their special place in our hearts. Somewhere another little buddy is waiting for you to take him/her into your home!

How about a rescue cairn?
