It feels a bit odd to write a memorial to a dog who isn't really ours, but I'm remembering her today, so why not?

Rosebud was a feisty, lovely little dog. Her path through life touched many people.

We got Rosebud as a "junior" puppy. Her breeder had already arranged for Rosebud's breeding and she mentored us through our first litter (the "Budlettes").

When we added another bitch later, the two turned out to be mortal enemies. We have the scars of our hard-earned lessons on breaking up bitch fights, and living in a battle zone.

Yet ... she was an adorable, swaggering, wagging little dog who deserved much more than embattlement, so we placed her with a retired fellow who, rather sadly, wanted a dog as a companion as he faced caring for his wife, who was ill. Rosebud was the perfect girl to cheer them up and she shone brightly for her new pal. In a cruel twist, he himself died first, suddenly and unexpectedly, and in tears of grief the ailing widow and her family returned her to us.

A lovely, perfect couple adopted Rosebud and she went to live in a home that was like the Garden of Eden, where she lived for 10 years, until her passing. There was more grief ahead in her new home, but Rosebud did what Cairns do and filled hearts and lives with Cairnish spirit. We would occasionally get a note and a photo and a reassurance that Rosebud was comfortably in the world. We were saddened to learn that she left the world yesterday at the age of 16. We are so grateful for the long, loved life that she received in the company and care of her adopted home. The photos we received show that she was in a great place (literally and figuratively).

Thank you Barb for bringing Rosebud into the world; thank you Carole for seeing her safely through it

What a journey Rosebud had and such a sweet little face. Sorry for your loss Brad. And you obviously had a huge impact on her life.

Idaho Cairns

Sounds like she did her job well as a companion dog--good for her-- cared for, doted on and loved to the end by her immediate and extended family. No dog can ask for more than that.

They will all leave us eventually, but they will leave their footprints in our hearts. :candle:

What a lovely beautiful face Rosebud had. I

am glad she had such a wonderful life filled with people that truly loved her, you Brad being one of them.

What a wonderful little dog. Rosebud did all that Cairns should do in caring for her people throughout her long life.

Lovely to hear her story.
