Milopup
hello, help - my pup chewed up a couple of pieces of his large sterilized bone (which was filled with peanut butter). is this harmful? what can I do? the pieces he chewed off and swallowed were about the size of 3 grains of cooked rice. ugh - is there anything that can satisfy his chewing need without causing him harm??? wags
I don't think this will be a big problem. Wes ate a part of his bed last year. I read somewhere where cooked bones can splinter. Wes has eaten bits of the nylabone and nothing happened. So far his kongs are indestructible and safe. But they are boring empty
MikeC
Milopup, Duffy swallows parts of his nylabones all the time and he is fine. I don't think you have anything to worry about, especially since the pieces were so tiny. MikeC
toomanypaws
If he has an obstruction, you'll notice him having trouble eating, coughing or vomitting. More than likely he's fine. Abbey is the one I have to watch, she's my chewer. She has chewed the plastic off her bowls several times. I bought her a stainless steel bowl and she chewed the rubber padding off the bottom. To play it safe, I'd take the bone away from Milo. Ever since little Hannah started choking on that piece of pig ear strip, I don't give the girls anything that they can break into tiny pieces. I did try those bull sticks and those don't seem to break apart like the bones, cow hooves and pigears. The girls now get very excited over baby carrots. <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/maiwag/terriersiggy.jpg" border="0" class="linked-sig-image" /> Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)

wags
Yep! He's probably the only dog with a bed shaped like a donut- It has a hole in the middle!
kayharley
Not to sound disgusting but today when I was cleaning up the yard of dog poop, I found in Madison's stool a huge chunk of a red rope toy that she's been destroying since Sunday. This was the toy that was advertised to be "indestructable. Most of this toy was still intact but she must have ingested the particles of rope she chewed off. I couldn't throw it away fast enough and am so fortunate that it didn't cause any obstructions. What is safe, anyway??? I am so confused!! (again I have to use that icon ) Bones can splinter, cotton rope toys can be ingested, nylabones also can be ingested but so far those are the safest I've used. Scully'sMom
Scully's favorite all time bones are the compressed bones filled with chicken I get at Petsmart. I've seen them in Drs. Foster and Smith and our food store carries them as well. They have "sticks", knotted bones, and a compressed bone. Toys, as I've said before, are fair game for her to chew the heck out of. http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_det...D=1096066335447 And... they come in Dingo Doughnuts http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_det...D=1096066448929
Milopup
Oh my pup destroys all types of Nylabones. The gummy nylabones he chews through in minutes, the blue dentachews he eats like they are made of biscuit material. He has chewed off a lot of the plastic from his toybin. I would love to find something that he could satisfy his chewing needs with. Even bully sticks don't last very long.
CarCarDawn
Hi! Riley just "killed" a "Tickle Me Elmo" doll - - - he had so much fun playing with it and throwing it around - - loved the little voice coming from it - - I didn't think he would destroy Elmo - - - but he did. I have found little furry red pieces in the house - - - - AND - - outside the house - - - seems as tho everything has passed through nicely. Wouldn't worry unless there is a problem eating or eliminating - - - poor little Elmo - - - he and his voice box are now separated!!!!
CallisMom
LOL - Calli has done the same thing with Elmo! She was obsessed with DD's - loved the voice coming out of it . . but that was the end of Elmo!!
Milopup
My little one loves to take out all the stuffing from the toys, and absolutely loves to tear out the squeaker boxes and voiceboxes. He even got to some handmade ones I bought in Germany.
Eliz222
My little puppy, Finch, almost choked to death a few nights ago. It was very scary! She swallowed the end piece of a rawhide bone (small) and had trouble breathing. My DH stuck his hand down Finch's throat twice before he dislodged the piece. All the bones we had laying around the house were thrown in the trash right away!!! We kept the Bully Sticks, since only small pieces are chewed off at a time. What a night!
